Yes. Remember what happened in the SEC last season? Texas A&M beats "top 10" South Carolina in impressive fashion and catapults all the way to the top 10. Mississippi State beats "top 10" LSU and jumps into the top 10.

I'm sure we wouldn't get that kind of respect if we beat a top 15 Notre Dame in September.

Even the Ole' Ball Coach didn't think SC was a top 25 team after the loss. He was right.

Personally, I think polls should be banned until week 4.

Manning has graduated, you know:)

Dobbs impressed me a lot when he took over at the end of the year. Jalen Hurd is an absolute beast at RB and they add Alvin Kamara in the backfield. North and Malone are both really good talents at WR. Not sure how good they are on the line of scrimmage though.

I could see them making some noise in the East and beating UGA in Knoxville this year.

A strong season this year and the perspective of many will change. A seven or less win season and they will go back to their time worn criticisms.

Certainly true, but it has to be in conjunction with stronger seasons by other conference members, too. The ACC champs need to be the best in a league that has at least four or five nationally prominent teams. The pieces are there, just need to start winning more. Louisville, Georgia Tech, FSU, Clemson, Miami, Virginia Tech and a couple others are capable of being top 20 teams. If and when there are two in the top seven or 8 and two more in the top 20 perceptions will begin to change. This season was a start. Getting key wins in out of conference, rivalry games and high profile bowl games will provide a shot in the arm.

The teams I have the biggest problem with being ahead of us are Mississippi State, LSU, and Missouri. USC might be a bit of a stretch, as well

the only poll that matters doesn't come out until later in the year. however, there is still an effect of the other polls. espn coverage is based on their poll so that's who gets shown on sportscenter and gameday.

it is going to take time and frankly, the ball is in our (GT's) court. take care of business, and do it for 2-3 years in a row at least, and perception will change. so far we've been unable to do that.

Yes and no. If we had a season like Arky (or TWO IN A ROW!!), we wouldn't sniff the top 25 til we were 7-0. As it is, Arky starts out 4-0 they'll be top 10. An SEC team wins 11 games, and they get an automatic preseason top 15 ranking for the next two years.

If ACC teams beat each other it is because we are a weak conference. If SEC teams beat each other it is because they are a strong conference. It never ends.

This. The "narrative" establishes the myth; the myth sustains the narrative...or is it the other way around?o_O

It will take several years of the SEC getting caught with their pants around their ankles in the bowls before ESPN's "SEC roolz" talking points will become untenable.

Just look at TCU they've had their ups and downs but the fact their best seasons were in the MWC people discredited them and I feel they are still trying to be taken seriously in the college football landscape.

I think they have finally got some eyes on them by beating the other Mississippi team in a more embarrassing fashion than we beat ours.

It seems the BCS poll has simply been replaced by the the playoff committee poll. The fate of all these teams resides in the hands/opinions of a select few. Wack. The good news is the committee poll doesn't come out until, what, the 5th week? However, they're human and they'll be swayed by all the media hype and unofficial polling that goes on regardless.

Actually a bit later this year, though I agree other polls and media will influence the committee once again.

Well we have one of those "several years" in the books now. Time to add another one this season.
