If he's less gifted at elusiveness and running than Sims, he may not beat him out. Now, if he turns out to be a high percentage passer with a high TD:int ratio, then all bets are off. He seems to be a very good find by our staff and it's great to be an early enrollee. At a minimum, if he is the real deal, he will make Sims even better. Most, but not all, of the QB puzzle is above the shoulders (Dewberry, Godsey, and Shockley come to mind).

The QB room was significantly upgraded with him. With Sims year of experience and Peery coming in early I see the QB play at GT taking huge steps forward. Our RB’s will feast with DB’s having to play us honest for the first time since Godsey.

There is very little chance that Peery beats out Sims. Peery didn't get a chance to play this fall while Sims was getting experience at this level. It's highly unlikely the staff will want to restart that process all over again with another true fresh especially since Sims got the turnovers under control after the bad start. Most likely the staff will try and redshirt him to create some separation in classes between him and Sims. Ideally Sims would be a 3 or 4 year starter, get drafted high, and Peery would be ready as a redshirt soph or junior without the growing pains of a true freshman being thrown to the fire. .

Peery is another guy that I think could have improved his rating through summer camps and a senior season. He appears to be solid and will definitely upgrade the talent in the qb room.

Once again, the OL factors in. If our pass blocking improves, then running will make less of a difference. If Peery is more accurate than Sims and his ability to read defenses is as good as the article indicates, and Peery gets an entire spring and fall practice in, then I wouldn't count him out. Sims beat out Graham, who had a year of experience and was a good runner, and Sims didn't get an entire spring or fall in.

Yeah, im not completely convinced that Peery couldn't take the job from Sims if Sims doesn't improve his accuracy and doesn't get off to a great start next year. Whoever gets the job, I hope both think its a real competition during the spring and fall.

Always seems to be a lot of hype behind any QB Tech signed in the previous class regardless of coach. Everybody was hyping Gleason up too. Doubt Peery sees the field for a meaningful snap (barring injury) til 2023 at the earliest.

A few were hyping up Gleason, not everyone. There were quite a few that were concerned about his struggles his senior season. Those that were rational knew it was going to be a struggle for him to see the field as a freshmen.

Lots of recruits, not just QBs, get some hype to start and play right away to some extent. That's just part and parcel of recruiting and being a fan.

If that happens then it seems unlikely that Peery ever plays a game here. I doubt he will wait 3 years, especially if we recruit over him.

Don’t think any non-QB from the 2021 class is thought of as a candidate to start right away. Last year Gibbs was expected to see the field but not to displace a returning horse in Mason.

What other non-QB are you thinking of that’s been getting starting hype out of HS recently?

Competition is king, plus injuries happen. The faster Peery develops the better, so glad he's EE. I am hoping Yates keeps developing as well...he is still young. Would be good to have 3 QBs who can at least manage a game and make a few play action throws.
