Buzzing Yellow Jackets

So... I've been pondering this for a while. I think FINALLY with this new regime it could be something that takes off.

At ATL united games we have the supporters section. They get themselves hype and the ENTIRE stadium pumped and LOUD.

I believe this would be a FANTASTIC addition to Bobby Dodd. Even if it's a sworn oath to do it from your already bought season ticket section. Instead of the audio guy screwing us up with weird vanessa carlton music we could of a group of Emcees to lead the Buzzing Yellow Jackets in a chant, some kind of crowd motivational song, or clapping.

To me this works so unbelievably well at the ATL United games I can see the young fanbase and especially the students getting in on this and loving it.

After an injury in high school I stopped playing football and became an emcee for the crowd. I will say this, I had every student on their feet not only on 3rd downs, but every down on defense. We were on Fox Sports 5 high school teams of the week because we were so loud and we went undefeated at home until we ran into a future dwag of Hutson Mason and the Lassiter Trojans where we lost in the final seconds.

(Back to the point)

I truly believe getting a group of LOUD supporters that will dedicate to getting things going could be huge not only for the team, but for recruiting. It would make a gameday atmosphere like no other. Half the reason people go to United games is because its just fun to be around all the cheering.

We can bring that to Grant field. We can make a change in the public eye.

I'd love to set something up, maybe a meeting point before every home game where we can start a cheer from the north endzone behind the student section. Then have queues for when to start the next chant within the game.

A big thing recruits look for is gameday atmosphere. We have an opportunity to make this place like no other.

I had a sideline pass and got to greet deedrick mills in the initial warms ups. The stands were virtually empty.

I love your idea and hope t stan is planing something like that. I remember Tstan saying his goal is to make gt 2019 25 th best student section.

I just cannot believe United has been around for 3 years and have this... and we don't....

Feel free to click on each supporter groups page and explore. Remember...they have been around 3 years.... how long have we been playing???? Exactly.

To me this is a must move action by our fanbase and a chance to take a great lesson from our fellow Atlanta United brothers.

Supporter section would be great. Give those passionate about the game priority seating and and enhanced experience and bump some student sections back. Supporters could be near the band, adjacent to the reck club. Only been to one United game, the opener at Dodd, but loved the idea that night of something similar.

Truthfully, we have small supporter type sections now, groups that have congregated together in the UN and UE, this would just be an effort to centralize them all in the lower level sections with high visibility

Supporters sections have been around in American soccer (and soccer in general) a lot longer than the 3 years Atlanta United is playing.

This idea came up in that Google Doc someone had floating around this forum a year ago. A SWARMesque section for people who aren’t students anymore (or never were) but want to get rowdy would be awesome. I personally don’t get super loud at football or basketball games because nobody around me does. If I was guaranteed a section where every person around me was standing the whole game and screaming every defensive down, I would participate a lot more and have a better experience. I’d probably skip on the chanting and songs and flags because that doesn’t fit the flow of college football like it does a continuous game like soccer, but if you made the section what I posted above, I’d be all in immediately.

I agree. I just think getting the YELLOW...JACKETS!

DE....FENCE!!! chants going need a solid group. Plus if other fans see another group getting up and excited it usually spreads like wild fire.

Songs eh not so much.

I'm thinking yellow jackets chant, de fence chant, and maybe a ramblin...Gamblin! Chant.

Just don't see why this isn't a thing that is being pushed especially with attendance declining across the board. It would help make games fun again

From your lips to TStan’s ears. Best thing you can do is mention it to your ticket rep and hope he will forward on the idea, I’ll make sure I do next time I speak with him. I’m guessing someone from operations reads this forum. Missing out big time on customer feedback if they don’t.

Btw I’m not surprised you were an emcee for your football team in high school...you’re the same guy who sits (season tickets?) in 105 at McCamish with me and was going crazy at the VT game(?) this year right? I remember you posting about that. Some opposing fans were painted up right next to you and being obnoxious (in the fan way)? Haha maybe it was someone else on the board.

Haha yeah I was in 105. And I'm in 101 at the football games. We are loud and rowdy over there too.

I use to be able to get a crowd going like no other.

I'd like to help GT get there.

I thought the GT Swarm (not this website) section in the Lower North next to the band was our Supporters Club. What am I missing?

Idk. I never hear them leading anything.

I'm saying we need this group of people to be 200-500 people strong starting cheers and chants. Always standing and always LOUD. I haven't seen that much of anywhere unless it was 3rd down and a close game in the 4th.

Don't we have cheerleaders for this purpose? Also, back in my day, we had a mic man who got the cheers going.
The cheerleaders and danceers are scripted to be observed in their selfie like performances. They are slightly better than robots ( except for looks where they are exceptional) . The guy dancer is really quite good.

The days where the cheer leaders spontaneously lead cheers has long past.

Do u remember this one from the late 60's
May favorite spontaneous cheer was Rip um up, Tear um up, Give um Hell TECH.

Hahahahaha they are as useless. You need other peers to get other peers going. I want every home game rocking. Your ears should be ringing when you leave Bobby Dodd. That's what recruits want. It makes the game 10x more fun

I'm all for a rocking atmosphere, but you don't have to turn a football crowd into a soccer crowd to do it. There are plenty examples of rocking college football stadiums all around us, pick one and do it.

Right, but this isn't making it a soccer crowd it's just convincing the old folks to get up and yell. Its getting the fans engaged. They need some serious encouragement. Plus this may be a way to get new people into the stadium. A rebranding on all levels is needed. GT needs to be FUN again. The average football not GT fan wouldn't say it's been boring for a while.

Collins is all about innovation. Well this is a way to click on all cylinders. Make sure you breath some serious hyped life into the stands.

Just a few idea
At TAM they have yell leaders- perhaps your crew could space some around the stadium. I think that is your calling.

Remember u have to fit in so that advertising can occur and band can play.

Imo, The ideal spot would be the south west endzone where the visitors come out . ( no throwing ) . Iirc That area is usually not very full . Not sure about access but would be neat to see that filled w your crazies and a block for freshmen .
At baylor they revied the freshmen enter by running accross the field to the first 5 rows (must in gold.) . THE ROWDY NEEDS TO START W THIS YEARS OR NEXT YEARS FRESHMEN CLASS.

Suggest you send in your personel nfo and background and say you are willing to be loud. Get in door before u flood them w ideas

U remind me of KRAZY GEORGE AND THE WAVE W THE HOUSTON OILERS.

GOOD LUCK

Speak for yourself, John. Personally, I get extremely bored watching most shotgun spread teams. I watched Temple once when Coach was there and switched channels; it was soooo predictable. Hope that won't happen next year, but the proof is in the pudding.

But more to the point: US football and World football are very different games. One reason that soccer teams have sections of supporters is that for a good proportion of every game it doesn't matter if you are paying attention to the action or not. The supporter sections are there as much to keep the fans occupied as anything else. The action in football is sporadic, but intense. There isn't, imho, much need to cheer throughout the game; there's plenty enough when the plays gin up. Also, having continuous cheering going on is a distraction. I come to football games to watch teams play each other in the most complicated team sport played on Earth. Watching how the plays develop and predicting what will come next is a large part of the fun.
