Bowl Opponent Speculation

In an effort to conjoin multiple thoughts…

Clemson, Miami, Texas, Kentucky and SMU all win next week.

GT beats ugag and ugag loses to Texas in the SECCG.

The ACC gets three teams in: Miami, SMU and Clemson.

And the SEC just gets Texas and likely their best 3 loss team (no idea whom?)

GT then becomes the ACCs top non-CFP bowl team. What would that bowl projection be?

Did some snooping around and this is the best I could find. The ACC, like the SEC, negotiates among multiple “First Tier” bowls to get the matchups with the most interest, rather than having a true pecking order like the B1G or B12. I’d say most likely then is Gator Bowl, Mayo Bowl, or ReliaQuest Bowl.

After FSU I had dreamed of Gator bowl. Then King got hurt in unc game. Now we are having to go with true freshman and still talkjng Gator bowl?

Gator Bowl hates us, Mayo will want a NC team, probably Duke over us, Reliaquest is B10 v SEC.

More likely we end up in SD or Yankee stadium

I bet it will be Duke's Mayo. They would ideally want an NC team, but they won't want UNC (they were in it last year and they aren't very good) or 6-6 NC State. Thus, it will likely come down to Duke and us (Miami/SMU loser, Clemson, and LVille will presumably all be off the board by then). I could be wrong about this, but I think we'll draw more to CLT than Duke would, so I think they'd pick us.

I’ll preface this with I’m completely sober…

If Tech beats ugag with a healthy-ish King, that would give us 3 top 10 wins. I don’t believe anyone else has more than 1.

If logic can be used to hold a team out of the playoffs due to loss of a key player (2023 free shoes), why can the same logic not apply to forgive a loss or two during the regular season when that team was not themselves?

Here’s a stat. I was curious, so I looked. Out of the past 17 years, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl (and former names) has only had one bowl game where it didn’t include at least one team from the state of NC, SC, or VA. Overwhelmingly from the state of NC.

Mayo Bowl

Projected matchup
: Georgia Tech vs. Michigan
I’ve never been to a bowl game before (we’ve only been to 1 since I Got Out), and haven’t really ever considered going to one. But if this was the opponent and bowl we ended up at I’d almost 100% be going. Charlotte is a cool city and Michigan would be a fun team to see GT play. We’ve only played them once ever, all the way back in 1934. Is there even anybody on this board who was born before 1934? I’ve got a couple of UMich buddies who would probably want to go as well.

If VPI can beat Dook tonight, and UVA and NCSU can win next week, the ACC will have 14 bowl eligible teams. As it is we have 11. One of VPI or UVA will be eligible, so that’s 12. Should be a nice haul for the conference, especially is both Miami and SMU can get CFP bids.
Unfortunately they didn't...but either way, isn't it lucky for the ACC that last year Florida State successfully argued for additional payouts to those who do something in the postseason?

Protected content to see all their projections, but after this weekend ESPN's 2 analysts are in agreement on one thing (each of which would make my household a house divided):

Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl
Saturday, Dec. 28
Bonagura:
Georgia Tech vs. Nebraska

Duke's Mayo Bowl
Friday, Jan. 3
Schlabach:
Georgia Tech vs. Nebraska
Playing Nebraska followed by Colorado. Something that should have happened 34 years ago.

I don't know why they hate us so much. Back in the day, when they were practically unknown and struggling financially, Dodd agreed to play there and lend instant credibility to the game. This business is truly all about what have you done for me lately. In 1965, the Gator Bowl got lots of national publicity with a matchup of ranked Georgia Tech against ranked Texas Tech featuring Heisman Trophy winner Donnie Anderson. I was there with my dad, mother and a bunch of relatives. We expected to lose and Donnie Anderson to run wild. It was Lenny Snow who ran wild with well over 100 yards rushing and Tech put on a show. My dad was predictably miffed...where was that when we lost to Georgia? He groused to my long suffering mother.

The mayo bowl will never, ever pick GT unless they have no other choice. Holiday Bowl would be a good trip for the kids, so that's my hope.
Well I’d never pick Dukes Mayo unless every store within one hundred miles were out of Hellmanns, so they can go to hell!
