A group of us are driving over Friday and coming back home after the game. It looks like gas station pizza for us. Some of those gas stations can really do some unique things with food.
I have heard from a local ( and on this site) that the kool korner , which is south of stadium by 5 miles ope s at 10 and has great cubans. Probably not better than ebor city Tampa.

If you are in Tampa, I highly recommend the Colombia Restaurant. It is a mainstay in Ybor City and has been operated by the same family for over 100 years. A Tampa tradition that serves a terrific, authentic Cuban Sandwich...It uses meats from Cuba, Italy, and Spain, the birthplaces of many of the original settlers of Ybor City. These are the folks that began the hand-rolled cigar industry that made Tampa famous and has sadly has gone by the boards.

Can be the same guy as on 10th Street. That guy was old in 1990. He’d be 100 years old now. But those Cubans rivaled any Cuban I’ve ever had in Miami or Ybor City.

After USF soul crushing lose, andy mac later told me no one saud a word till they got back to locker room.
I and my friend went to emybor to get dinner, AND REALLY GREAT CUBANS TO GO ALONG WITH COOKIES AND SMALL CAKES.

I will try to bring some kool corner cubans and cakes to tail gate.

Lets just hope key wants to "put the hammer down",

Same guy. Don't know if he's still alive (prob not) but he was when they moved to B'ham; site says his son and family help run it. My senior year in late 90s, I went to Kool Korners Grocery on 14th every week to get a cuban sandwhich. There was always a line out the door during lunch. I definitely plan to stop by there and get a cuban.

My daughter and I are going to do something different and take Amtrak to Birmingham for the game. The train arrives at 12:30 so that should give us plenty of time to get settled in and get to the game. Spending the night, and will try Kool Korners the next day for lunch before we catch the afternoon train back.

Does anyone have other recommendations for dinner in downtown B’ham after the game?

Neither fancy nor hole-in-the-wall, but Taco Mama is a great Mexican chain in Alabama. I think of it like a Willy’s but much much better. They have one in Athens and I really hope they expand to Atlanta at some point.
They probably will expand first at Gwinnett County, maybe you want to join the restaurant business and open a franchise?

Just for clarification.....Ybor City
Thank you!! I thought I was going nuts, thought maybe that I just imagined I'd seen a Y instead of an E in the name The few times that I've driven through the area, after all it was several years ago the last time I was down there.

B-Ham has many great options - Just depends on what you are looking for and based on the previous posts most of key places have been covered from casual to high end as well as bars and micro breweries.

I lived a few blocks away on state street and would walk over twice a week for those Sammie’s. I still talk about them 20 years later.

Definitely hitting them up!
