Bill Belichick has nothing but high praise for Shaq Mason

The praise for the rookies continued when Belichick was asked about guard Shaq Mason, the fourth-round pick out of Georgia Tech.

"Probably one of the most athletic offensive linemen I've coached," he said. "He'd certainly been in that upper category, the upper part of that conversation. He runs well, has got very good balance, short space quickness, and he's light on his feet."

Watching the pats a few weeks ago and saw shaq get fooled on dt and de stunt.

Watching this week, he picked up stunt with ease and opened a huge throwing lane. Quick learner.

Some have said he was the difference because he made the line calls.

Sending this to CC's brother.

By all means do so, as we need all the big, nasty OL and DL we can get on board. However, note Belichick's comments regarding Mason's attributes...."runs well, balance, quickness, etc." Shaq was blessed with these and would have made the league if he had played at West Bumford State, LSU, GT or MIT. Let's find some more Shaq Mason's please. Don't care how many stars they have. As long as they are good enough to start for the Pats as a rookie.:)

I really don't know of any other Olinemen GT is recruiting.
???if this is remotely true it could be disastrous... I recall Coach Ross sharing his philosophical emphasis were it started and ended on both sides of the line....you must control the LOS....

I don't know of any doesn't mean GT isn't recruiting them. I personally think 2 more will be added, just most likely kids poached from Eastern Western Vally St U.

We're you saying this last year when we signed Will Bryan and Brad Morgan?

If they can play some ball, bring 'em on. Again and again board members get goo-goo eyed over star ratings -- maybe because it is easier -- and forget you want a dog that will hunt vs. one that might hunt, except the latter is toting around his press clippings. An enormous and amazing number of 4 and 5-stars never get off the collegiate bench, doomed to scout teams and tackling drills at major universities for four years.

Say what you want but teams that consistently sign the 4 & 5 * players are the same teams that have consistent success. GT has done a good job of with the diamond in the rough but those are outliners not the norm.
Let me add the probability of the 4 & 5 star being a successful college player is a lot higher than that of a 3 & 2 star.
Per this GT is in the 2 star ranking.

I would not argue that point, though I think the star ratings, including the supposed 2 level now, are subjective nonsense created mostly for profit. My discomfort comes with reasoning that in some way -- new coach, new offense, new something or other -- Tech will begin to sweep in the 4s and 5s. No point in revisiting all the reasons why, but it just ain't gonna happen. So spend all our time recruiting people we can't get, and watch other programs sweep up the players we could have had? (I'm still waiting for the supposed 4-5 star to proclaim he wants to go college to be a nuclear physicist.) I'm just a guy who thinks we have to deal with facts as they are and not how we wish them to be. That would disqualify me from being a candidate for president, the expert TV guest or the newspaper columnist. My future is further limited.

I never said that. However Id like to see a better closing of top targets. There's a chance this year of closing on a 5* he's number 1 choice is Stanford. While I like being in the conversation Id like more if GT was his #1 choice. That is, can be, and should be a consistent possibility for GT. Top 20 to 30 classes is a realistic goal for GT. Having followed GT recruiting for a number of years now I can say if GT were to actually close on its top targets GT would be in the top 20's.

When it comes to "star" ratings (and this is merely a subjective opinion based on feel and no stats), a "skill" player is much easier to assess coming out of HS than a lineman. Linemen (both O-Line and D-Line) is much more of a crap shoot than skill players.
