Let me start out by saying I am a native of New Englander albeit transplanted years ago and a lifetime Patriots fan. I am grateful for the Pats run for years under Belichick and Brady and others. But Belichick has come unglued, both as an out of touch football coach, and in his personal life. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am 72 yrs old.

Belichick, is also age 72. And all the power to him as he is dating a 25 yr old woman for the past year. Creepy? Heck yes, big time creepy but hey, she is not my daughter or granddaughter. So it only makes sense he spends his final years as Big Man on Campus with a college campus of 18-25 yr old coeds. Though his 25 yr old hottie now has competition.
Yes, I don't see this ending well on all fronts. UNC keeps going to any length to run with the Clemson's and Alabama's on the football field. I am sure most of us recall their academic scandal of mostly football players taking bogus classes. Belichick is yet another example of Tar Heel desperation. Go JAckets, let's kick his butt!

If Bill can handle a 25 year old girlfriend, more power to him. At 73 that would compete with having a 2 year old kid as being awful.

There appears to me that there is something he brings to the table that as of now in CFB is not easily obtained. CFB as we all know is drastically changing and the office staff and needs there have become really big. It appears to me one of the first to expand the workings of the office staff and functions was Saban and he IMO got that from his time with the pros. Kirby at UGA brought that to Athens from what I've heard and CBK brings it to us. Bellichik brings that to Chapel Hill. In CFB I just wonder if that is maybe a little difficult for some to put together as of now and UNC sees that Bellichik can establish that for them, CFB is becoming pro as we all know. Just a thought I had, not saying it is gospel. They get it all set up and then figure out who needs to be coach. Seems like I heard CBK say that he has had conversations with pros in dealing with the new CFB.

In fact, it is pro football, so maybe a pro football coach like Belichick isn't such a bad fit as some of us, including me, have imagined. It will be an interesting experiment.

The University of North Carolina has agreed to pay new football coach Bill Belichick $10 million a year, according to a term sheet the university released Thursday afternoon.

While the agreement is for five years, only the first three years’ pay is guaranteed in case Belichick is fired without cause.

Belichick’s deal also provides him with a $100,000 expense annual expense account and the possibility of getting $3.5 million a year in bonuses. Among the bonuses, a total of $250,000 looks to be routinely attainable: $150,000 for the team playing in a non-CFP bowl game, which generally requires a record of at least 6-6 (UNC's record this season), and $100,000 for the team having a single-year NCAA Academic Progress Rate figure of 950 to 969 (the team has exceeded 950 in each of the past three years).

--$10 million as an "assistant coach salary pool." (This season, UNC is paying nearly $7.4 to its 10 primary assistants, according to information obtained from the school by USA TODAY Sports. The NCAA Division I Council this past summer eliminated its 10-person limit on the number on-field assistant coaches at schools other than service academies.)

--$1 million for strength and conditioning staff.

--$5.3 million for support staff, including funding for a new general manager position with pay "not to exceed $1.5 million." During a news conference Thursday, Belichick said that role will be taken by Mike Lombardi, a former NFL executive. Alabama GM Courtney Morgan is due to make $825,000 next season.

--$13 million as what the term sheet called "revenue sharing.” This is presumably a figure that represents the total amount of money the university plans to pay to football players as consideration for the use of their name, image and likeness if a federal judge grants final approval in April to the proposed settlement of antitrust lawsuits against the NCAA and the Power Five conferences.

Interesting observation. Indeed, college football is becoming more like pro football every day.
In fact, it is pro football, so maybe a pro football coach like Belichick isn't such a bad fit as some of us, including me, have imagined. It will be an interesting experiment.
We'll see what happens.

My comments are more towards UNC needing to do the setup internally over Bellichek being the right coach, maybe they let him set it up and then advise them on what they will need to look for in a coach or something along those lines. Yes he would be the coach while they are getting it all worked out, would probably help him with his recommendations as they go fwd. Again just speculation on my part, but the problems they and many other schools have are real and need someone that knows what needs to be done and how to do it internally.
For what they are trying to do, if I happen to be right, Bellichek could be what they really need temporarily.

What if you had a coaching staff comprised of former NFL coaches with a track-record of success? And what if you built your college team EXCLUSIVELY around portal players that had the potential to play on Sunday. IOW, no freshmen. And what if you had enough NIL money to pay these players to come to your program?

This would mean that your staff would spend NO time on recruiting trips to high schools in Podunk, AL but would focus entirely on getting kids ready for the NFL.

IOW, suppose you built a "finishing school" for future pros.

1. Would this approach attract kids in the portal?
2. Would this translate into enough wins on Saturday to keep the alumni happy?
3. Is this what Belichick is proposing to do at UNC?

And what if you built your college team EXCLUSIVELY around portal players that had the potential to play on Sunday. IOW, no Freshman. And what if you had enough NIL money to pay these players to come to your program?

This would mean that your staff would spend NO time on recruiting trips to high schools in Podunk, AL but would focus entirely on getting kids ready for the NFL.

IOW, suppose you built a "finishing school" for future pros.

1. Would this approach attract kids in the portal?
2. Would this translate into enough wins on Saturday to keep the alumni happy?
3. Is this what Belichick is proposing to do at UNC?

That has to be his plan for at least the first year. That approach didn't work too well at FSU this year. We have had real good success with kids being accepted by the team when they transfer in. I think Key is also looking for good character kids.

Chan Gailey coached in multiple super bowls. I think it helped in recruiting, but less than I hoped. Charlie Weis (sp?) did too.

Belichick is saying he’s the best to ever coach the game—that’s his angle.

Great question.

As I understand your concept, it would only work, if it would work at all, if you said up front this was exactly what you were doing and everyone at the university was 100% on board with this approach. There could be no pretending that this was anything other than an NFL training camp. And you would straighten out anyone, including the press, who tried to discuss it in any other way.

Let’s not forget that Bellichick is longtime friends with Saban. Both those guys love to talk football. Saban had enough with all the changes and called it a career but let’s say that Bellichick calls Saban after he quits and asks why and Saban gives him all the bad things about the new CFB. Bellichick goes back to his office(or maybe it’s a lair) and starts editing his NFL bible to fit the new CFB scenario. Once complete, he sends it to Saban to critique and he says “egad, I think you might have something, maybe you should give this a shot somewhere”.

Its like an evil genius manifesto on how to run a new age CFB program and unc is just the place willing to try it.

I mean, why would he do this now when he could be spending 24 hours a day with his hot 25 year old GF? Unless he’s already tired of spending all day with her!

Not so sure about that. On their resume is one of the most egregious things ever pulled by any program anywhere. I think it’s even possible that some of the SEC teams may have considered it even outside of their realm of possibility. Since UNC football has been largely irrelevant this thing has never gained the notoriety it deserved. But never put anything past them. Sadly enough.
