So the annual purge is ongoing at Bama as over-recruited prospects are leaving. Here's the latest ...

Bell is the fourth Tide player to decide to leave the program since Alabama finished spring practice in mid-April. Linebacker Adonis Thomas and defensive backs Maurice Smith and Shawn Burgess-Becker are the others.
Say what you want about that semi-pro team masquerading as a college squad but they do have talent busting at the seams. One or more of these guys could actually help us if they're able to fog a mirror academically.

Anyone think we have interest in any of these guys? Per Rivals, we recruited the Bell kid out of HS.

It's unlikely, iiuc, that they took the classes that would transfer to Tech on pace toward graduation.

Yeah, that's always the first assumption. Maybe some of them weren't there long enough to get thrown completely off track by the typical Bama football "curriculum"?

Get that, being there a shorter time could possibly result in them being further along in actually graduating.

Poor kid was grey shirted which is messed up(unless it was his own doings) . The ncaa needs to step in and do something about this mess they call recruiting. Stop making it about money and keeping the factory schools happy, and make it about the kids, because they are the ones that really matter. It's crazy these grown men are more worried about doing whatever it takes to win in football instead of actually caring about some of these kids, it's almost as if the kids are being taken advantage of because at 17 and 18 they really are still figuring things out. Imo they should do what cpj has said, you can sign the papers once you commit and imo you should be able to change schools only if the head coach leaves, this would help fix a lot imo.

Gray-shirting: The reason Tech is not in the SEC.

Not sure that has been a high priority for them for 50 years.

Do not think "gray shirting" was an issue 50 years ago.

The reason GT is not in the sec is due to an over abundance of our own arrogance ("we will ALWAYS sell our 40,000 season tickets), lack of foresight as regards pro sports,, and plain stupidity on part of Dodd / Harrison .

Yes we, if possible, should go after these kids. We have taken a transfer from them in both football & basketball I believe.

I will take Dodd at his word. It was the 140 rule and all the cheating around it. You, sir, may choose to believe what you wish to believe.

Easiest quote to find (Wikipedia): " Dodd would sign about 30-32 football players a year to meet the guidelines, but the other schools in the SEC were offering 45 scholarships a year, and most were allotting all but a nominal amount to football. Players not good enough to fall under the 140 Rule had their scholarships withdrawn before the end of each year by the other schools. Dodd insisted the recruiting of athletes by this method amounted to nothing more than a tryout for a scholarship. Dodd would not allow any of the football players choosing Tech to be dismissed from Tech, because they were not the best players. Dodd said, "it is not the recruit's fault for not making the squad, it was the coaches' fault for misjudging their talents." If a recruit came to Tech, he would stay on a football scholarship until he graduated"

Does this sound just a bit familiar....

did we? I could have sworn Brad has a scholarship - bet his parents will be surprised.

One "possible" name (assuming you know more about future attrition than the coaches) in 50 years. You can't do better than that?

and Brad's dad is going to be really upset when he finds out about the grayshirt. This is what he said about Paul Johnson:

"Anything he tells anybody in recruiting, you can take it to the bank. I've heard that from anybody who has ever had any dealings with him. He's just that type of gentlemen, and that type of coach. If he tells you something, he is true to his word."
