Atlantic Division champion Florida State leads the way with 17 selections

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Atlantic Division champion Florida State leads the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Football Team announced Monday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA).

The defending national champion and nationally-second-ranked Seminoles placed 17 members on the squad, including 10 first-team selections, as voted upon by 55 ACSMA members. Coastal Division runner-up Duke had nine players selected, including four on the first team. Eight student-athletes were chosen from Virginia, while Coastal Division champion Georgia Tech followed with seven and Clemson, Louisville and Miami each placed six student-athletes on the squad.

Each of the ACC’s 14 football member schools placed at least one player on the first-, second- or third teams.

The All-ACC offensive first team features a number of national leaders at their positions, including the reigning Heisman Trophy winner in Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and Seminoles offensive lineman Cameron Erving, the ACC’s two-time Jacobs Blocking Trophy recipient.

The first team also boasts the ACC’s top two rushers in Pitt’s James Conner (fourth nationally with 1,675 yards and second nationally with an ACC-record 24 rushing touchdowns) and Miami’s Duke Johnson (11th nationally with 1,520 yards and 13 total TDs).

FSU’s Winston, who leads the ACC in passing yardage (3,250 yards) and total offense (302.3 yards per game) is joined on the first team by Seminole teammate Rashad Greene, who leads the league in receiving (1,183 yards on 86 catches). The All-ACC first-team receiving corps features two other repeat performers from the 2013 squad in Duke’s Jamison Crowder (78 receptions for 942 yards) and Pitt’s Tyler Boyd (69 catches for 1,149 yards and eight TDs).

Crowder was also selected to the first team as a kick returner and is one of three players who earned All-ACC honors at two positions. FSU’s Erving was chosen at both first-team offensive tackle and second-team center. Pitt’s Boyd was selected as a first-team receiver and a second-team kick returner.

The defensive first team features Louisville safety Gerod Holliman, who tied a national record with 14 interceptions in the Cardinals’ 12 regular-season games. One of the defensive end spots is manned by Clemson grad student Vic Beasley, who leads the ACC this season with 11 quarterback sacks and leads all active FBS players in career sacks with 32. The first team also includes the ACC’s leading tackler in Duke linebacker David Helton (10.4 per game).

The kicking game is well-represented with 2013 Lou Groza Award winner Roberto Aguayo of Florida State (22-of-24 field goals, 49-of-49 on extra points) earning a spot on first team. NC State punter Wil Baumann, who ranks seventh nationally with a 45.3 average per kick, was voted first team at his position.

Twenty-two student-athletes chosen to the 2014 All-ACC Football team by ACSMA are repeat selections from last season.

Awesome for all our guys.

Good for Laskey and Days! None of them went over 1,000 yards, but great to see each of them honored.

DJ White made HM All ACC...surprised to see Golden on there, but good for him. White was one of the best DBs in the nation toward the back half of our schedule. Golden makes All-ACC for offense and defense!

Keshun makes it for a t-Frosh.

Awesome to see JeT get recognition in our offense. Smelter as well.

Also, great to see Chamberlain bounce back and have an All ACC season after last season. 3 OLs are All-ACC. BTW...I said if Burden ends up beating out O'Reilly for C, he's going to be an All ACC Center for us. Glad to be right on that!

When you win, you get these accolades.

We was hosed, but that's to be expected.

The one rap on our O that really is true applies to these all-star teams, especially on O. If you look at the skill positions, every one of the first teamers has "better" season stats then our guys. That's a drawback for system offenses; a lot of substitutions = lower overall yards. The only person who I think got really overlooked here was Shaq Mason, who should have been first team. But, if we win out, he'll be a prime candidate for 1st team AA, so we'll just have to wait and see.

The D got a slightly better treatment then I expected, oth. Congrats to Gotsis and Nealy. Golden should have been 2nd team too, but he has some good players in there to compete with.

Wow did DJ get screwed. Kendall Fuller gets 1st team defense? I know he only played the last half of the year but DeVonte Parker deserves at least 2nd Team All-ACC. Louisville would be 11-1 if they had him the whole year. Hell his stats in 5 games are about on par with Mike Williams and Phillip Dorsett who’ve played all year.

How does an OL from FSU make all-ACC at two positions? I can understand the returners, because you can be a returner and play another position as most do. But you can't play OT and C at the same time! Pick one or the other.

I can't believe Mason wasn't first team.

Congratulations to those honored.

Now, let's go beat FSU and their 10 first team all ACC selections with our TEAM!!!

We'd better destroy FSU. Until now I was gonna be ok with a loss, since we go to the OB anyways, and the ACC looks better with a playoff contender.

But forget all that. We'd better bring the pain on Saturday. Those ACC champion rings are worth a lot more than being placed on an imaginary list.

Winston as #1 WB is astonishing to me. He threw as many interceptions in his last game as JT5 has all season. And he has only 5 more TD passes all season to show for it. I can see why you'd place Williams above JT5, but Winston just hasn't had a very good season.

Chuck and Chernoff must be voters. Two dumbest guys in the world talking about football. Turned em on for a few. All they can talk about now is how much we hate them and other media types. Turned em off again. Will probably be another 9 months before I turn em back on again for preseason interest. And then I'll turn em off again till after our next beat down of the mutts.

These guys will never go back on their CPJ criticism....these guys said this season wasn't possible with CPJ at the helm. Time for them to eat crow now but they aint big enuf to.
