This is a dumb idea. Whoever thought this up had no grasp of football history and or math. Let's just get the playoff up to 8 teams nationally and play the games to see who is the best team.

Go Jackets!

ESPN: John Swofford: ACC not planning 3 divisions if deregulation passes
"We just feel conferences should have the opportunity to do that both in terms of the number of teams in a league and whether you can have a championship as well as how you determine which teams play in that championship game. During these conversations, we haven't had any real discussion about a three-division ACC. That has never had any legs in our discussions, and so far, any change to what we're doing now has not had any real legs."

I still think this is just laying the groundwork for Notre Dame to join in full time without having to bring anyone else along with them. With 14 teams, 3 divisions makes no sense. If somehow we end up with 15, suddenly you have a compelling reason for 3 divisions. Now ND knows we are ready and waiting for them whenever they're ready.

This is so Fing stupid. I don't understand why college football continues to come up with boneheaded ideas for it's post season, while every other sport on earth has it right.

Two highest ranked across all divisions or two highest ranked of the three division champs? If it's the former then why even have divisions...just have everyone on rotating schedules through the entire conference.

They were moving in the right direction with the playoff. It needs to expand to 8 and every conference needs a single defined champion as the result of a championship game. Conference champs get in from the power five and there are three at large teams (I.e. Wild cards). However, now it seems like the conferences will step in and screw it all up again.

Looks like I'm about a year behind on my opinion, lol. That's what I get for reading he first post and responding on my phone.

From what I understand, it was totally rejected (a Conference can't arbitrarily chose it's top ranked teams to play in a Championship Game, which was the point for establishing a three Division Conference). This means only Division Champs play in the Conference Championships, and the agreement allowed the Big 12 (with 10 Teams) to have a Championship Game in spite of having fewer Teams than was required in the past.

I think that we should just redefine our divisions every year. We should seed them based on the past year's results, permanent partners, and maximizing a rotation between teams.

I kind of like the idea of 3 divisions. It rustles the jimmies of so many people, I think it might be fun to consider. ;)
