I dont like Commish Phillips, but he laid the wood to ND in response to their whining about the ACC. Per espn:

Phillips on Monday said in his statement that Notre Dame is "an incredibly valued member" of the ACC and there is "respect and appreciation" for the Irish.

"With that said, when it comes to football, we have a responsibility to support and advocate for all 17 of our football-playing member institutions, and I stand behind our conference efforts to do just that leading up to the College Football Playoff Committee selections on Sunday," Philips said.

But I disagree most here think they were snubbed. I do agree the ND AD’s social media comment was a head scratcher. But I don’t really know why he’s so upset at the ACC.
Most everybody I've read have said they were snubbed particularly with Alabama getting in over ND. Anybody thinking otherwise are likely just angry with the real issue and that's the misdirected blame being thrown at the ACC. Not a good look for ND and especially their "leader". And, the national opinion seems to support that. They are coming across just like many picture them as. The AD won't do it, but he should have the balls to just admit he was emotional and made a mistake. I am not a big ACC Commish or HQ fan. Never have been. But, you can make a case ND should apologize. They won't. And, it is OK. Soap opera kinda stuff I admit. But, folks remember stuff like this. Just like a lot of the ACC can't stand Clemson or FSU as much as they hate UNC these days.

Laying the wood would be offering a mutual parting of ways very publicly such that notre dame has to eat their own words.

We have a lot of lemmings here. You guys claim to hate the new world of college football and ESPN yet you act just like them. ND doesn’t need the ACC. Every ACC team could cancel games with them and ND would simply fill those slots quickly as teams from the BIG and SEC would line up to play them. It’s just funny watching you guys follow the ESPN line like you’re a bunch of SEC non-thinking fans. ND has every right to be upset just like Miami would have been upset if they were left out. And anyone who is willing to call out the ACC is ok in my book. If more ACC schools had AD’s with balls in the past we wouldn’t be in this laughable position.

I'm not so sure. With the move to 9 conference games and big-time out-of-conference games seemingly more costly than helpful in the case of a loss (ala UT v OSU) I wonder if they would have a tough time finding consistent matchups.

Almost everyone thinks they were snubbed, but by being elitist about not joining a conference in football, they've made their own bed. They want their cake and to eat it too. I've already said ND should have been in ahead of Alabama and BYU should have been in ahead of Ole Miss (because they lost their entire coaching staff and that is going to effect their ability to compete t-i-c). They're reaping the spoils of their own elitism.

To all the ND haters out there, the hate is blinding you to the truth. They are legitimately better than half the teams in the playoff. They might be the best team overall the way they’re playing right now. However, we will never know because the committee leans heavily towards the SEC and the Big Ten and it’s a complete sham. If you think they don’t belong in the playoff, you’re just being disingenuous or a fool.
So you want eye test choosing teams instead of resume?

Commissioner Phillips probably remembers that many ACC fans did not believe he stood up strong enough for FSU in 2023 when the FSU quarterback was injured. I remember that he made a strong statement after the committee's selection. He knew he needed to take a strong stand for Miami prior to the selection this time around.

As long as they pay whatever their buyout is I really don’t care if they leave. Gosh man, grow the F up. They probably deserve to be in over Bama, but it’s not exactly a slam dunk. Who did the beat? USC and Pitt? Well ok, good teams, but not exactly playoff caliber teams.

I am with you. The hate for ND on this board is over the top. Likely because they have kicked GT's *** in football since we first played them over 100 years ago. The record is 31-6 in ND's favor. Lots of beat downs of GT by ND! We Old Timers recall the "Fish" game at Grant Field long ago! ND was famous for running up scores back in the day.

They actually bring value to the ACC.

I love ND.
Snubbed, Stsy home and recruit.

Then complain- and bang , have a deal that garantees them a spot based of ranking. They must have MASSIVE UPSIDE tv revenue EXPECTATION for a really big title game.

We play them at thier place in 2027. Total Class fans and pregame events.

I actually don’t hate them. But they’re acting like they should be in the top 4. They’re a fringe team and happen to be the odd one out. It sucks. Next time beat one of the two power teams on your schedule.

Nobody is saying ND has no right to be upset, they’re saying “**** em.”

Your ACC hate is clouding your judgment here. The ACC finally stands up for a member and gets them into the CFP as an at-large and you’re cheering the people complaining about that? They should’ve been doing this much longer, and never partnered with ND in the first place. It was never a long term sustainable move that did anything of much note for the future of the league, just a sad sappy way to try to leach off their prestige.

LA Times reporting on USC suggests there’s a significant possibility of even them dropping ND, even the talking heads that want to preserve tradition don’t like having the game where it is in the middle of the season. And generally think scheduling mid season OOC ND games is a sucker’s move.

SEC/Big are closing the ranks moving to bigger in-conference schedules.

CFP committee fired a direct shot at ND with the snub showing how much patience for their “independence” is wearing thin.

They were never going to join the ACC, the ACC has nothing much to lose by shutting them out. The ACC is probably dead soon anyway, no point in sucking up to ND in the hopes that they’d help against the SEC/Big.

Where was ND when Bama got in over FSU?

That guarantee for next year already existed. https://www.elevenwarriors.com/foru...d-a-playoff-bid-if-ranked-top-12-from-2026-on

A newsy wrinkle from Bevacqua: As part of an MOU signed last spring, Notre Dame is assured of a CFP berth if it is ranked in the top 12 starting next year.

If the field grows to 16 or more it also doesn’t apply.

How much patience will all the other AD’s have for special carve-outs if they’re willing to cut them out this year?
