A proposed California amendment would cap coaches salaries at $200,000 and would affect UCLA head football coach Chip Kelly and California head football coach Justin Wilcox.

It won't pass, but talk about legislating your sports teams back into the dark ages... Wow!

It wouldn't really affect someone like Chip Kelly. The school and/or athletic association controlled by the school could only pay him $200k/year, but TV deals, endorsements, and a "fan" club could pay him the other $4.4 million with money that would have previously been paid to or donated to the school. Net effect would be the same amount of money going to the school and the same amount of money going to the coach. The only difference would be how the money is passed to the coach.

Instead of fixing the actual problem, it looks like they're trying to split pennies to make it 999 billion 999 million and call it a day.
