This makes no sense at all from the player's perspective; he has only been playing ball for a few years. He is as raw as they come; probably still learning the fundamentals of D-line play. I wonder if this is kind of a push out the door?
Looking at his twitter it appears his brother is a highly sought after JUCO TE. May be looking at a package deal somewhere.

Just a reminder. If a kid is smart, an extra $100k at 20 is somewhere between 1.5 - 2M when they are 55.
I bet they'll save most of it....

Agree. He’s good but he ain’t $2 million good.
Not to disagree but seriously, how do we fans have any idea what the market will bear on these players?

Everyone is in the dark right now. Everyone is just feeling their way. It is a fascinating laboratory exercise in economics.

There have been emerging markets, but what about a market that has been kept in a corked bottle for decades and then we just uncork the bottle???

This is all really fascinating to me!

As for GT, we'll be okay. We've got a school with a hefty endowment, a school president who understands the relationship between sport and branding, a forward looking AD and a solid football coach.

Gt is okay.

Ohio State spent 20 million on their roster. Let’s say Singleton received 2 million… That would be 10% of their payroll. Most likely 30% of ours. Yeah that’s too much on a 105 man roster for a guy who doesn’t touch the ball every play.

Honestly, we have a really WEIRD market that emerged. I am sure there is contact between the collectives and the staffs but I feel like because of the degree of separation they’re trying to maintain with NIL, you have people wanting to throw money around who may be doing so with limited coaching / staff input…. Or maybe even in SPITE of the staff input.
The boosters who have always wanted power and influence have been empowered. They can go “gift” their programs with players and say “look what I brought you.” Whether the program wants it or not.
I wonder if the “veil” of separation was lifted that the staffs would be more discerning with the money. Of course you would still naturally have the huge money guys but i think some of the numbers we are seeing are coming from the inflated self-worth of the boosters who doing the buying…

This is what I don’t get. You have a free education at Ga. Tech and you don’t try to compete and get on the field while getting a world class degree?
I’ll let this serve as my annual rant on this topic…

Many don’t care. Maybe most in today’s landscape. To us, going and staying and finishing at Tech is a no brainer. Elite academics, endless opportunities for everything in Atlanta, P5 conference, history, tradition, program on the rise, everything you could ever want.

But no…what do the chicks look like? How much am I getting paid? What’s the bar scene like? Don’t y’all run the triple option? Where’s the Waffle House guy? Oh, I didn’t realize y’all are historically a top P5 program. I always thought y’all were like Vandy, but they play in the SEC. Speaking of the SEC, have you ever been to Starkville? Starkvegas amirite?!

I’ll be honest, when I was 18, all I gave a f*** about was girls and playing ball at the highest level possible. I wanted to go the biggest program giving me the best opportunity to play. Luckily for me, I smashed the SAT and that place ended up being Georgia Tech. Then I joined a fraternity.

I feel like this is where Key can excel is paying above market value for top interior oline which often gets neglected vs other positions. Grab a dominant center and guards and they’ll pave the road for us to run the bawl. Also find another stud run blocking TE like Hawes and we’ll be off to the races.
