I know kids don’t think like me, but I’d just be like…if I win at least 9 games again at this place, break some more records, I’ll go down as one of the best ever at Duke, and they might build a statue….

But now, he’ll prob go somewhere like Mizz or Arky, go 7-5 and never be thought of again, just like all the other mid Qs they’ve had.
Agreed. And being beloved among Duke alums would take you a long way for a long career after football.

Just a reminder. If a kid is smart, an extra $100k at 20 is somewhere between 1.5 - 2M when they are 55. That “little bit extra” could go a long way in setting somebody up for a comfortable retirement - with or without football.

I don’t see all the hand wringing when a school processes a kid. What about those guys? We don’t care about them?

There needs to be multi year contracts for these deals. That would go a long way in eliminating some of the chaos.

Even the most elite WRs don’t really change the game that drastically. The Bengals are 5-8 with Chase. Calvin played on the 0-16 Lions..UGA WRs couldn’t create separation this year because they couldn’t run the ball. They still have extremely talented players at the position.

We can agree to disagree. I'd take an elite QB/DE/DT over an elite WR, but WR is a position that puts points up on the board. We don't even make the ACCCG in 2006 without Calvin. Yes, we didn't win, but you have to get there to in order to win it...and that was more on our coaches and QB that failed to get Calvin the ball in the ACCCG. Randy Moss was a difference maker for Minnesota, New England, and Marshall. New England was literally unbeatable with Moss and Brady...until they got to the Super Bowl and the Giants played and All Time game.

No offense to Singleton, but do you think GT has the same season in 2006 with Singleton instead of Calvin? Look at Detroit Lions. They had BOTH Calvin and Matthew Stafford and struggled. Stafford goes to LA Rams with an offensive savant for coach and now he's the difference between a good team and a Super Bowl winning team that already had a generational defense. At some point, it's not just because of the WR (or the QB, or the RB, or the OL, or defense for that matter). At some point you have to look at the coaches.

Which brings me to: Will Singleton get the same coaching and game planning at other schools? Our coaches literally focused their gameplans around Singleton because he was our best weapon outside of Haynes King. Will he get that elsewhere? Look at Ahmarean Brown and Nate McCollum...both were our best WRs and we game planned them for touches. They went elsewhere where they weren't the focal point of the offense and did not have the same impact. That's another aspect of GT that Singleton will give up going to UGA or Auburn...or any other factory school with established WRs.

Same thought.

This is interesting....a position of need from Brent Key's hometown...
Pretty highly rated 4-star DL out of high school. Saw limited action last year, and has 4 years of remaining eligibility:
