This was back when the regular season was valued. Now, not so much. We’re trying (without saying so) to create a second season that “matters” by going to 12 and maybe 16 team playoff.

It's going to be great seeing Tennessee and Texas gone after the first round and ND bullying uga. Wonder if Brent/Buster gives Freeman any advice.
I’m afraid my hate for Georgia gets the best of me. After Tech had their victory against them snatched away I am reminded for the millionth time how lucky they are. Notre Dame could run all over them and still lose. Shudder

I have so much respect for Monken’s “4th and 1 on the 22; of course we’re going for it” mentality. And , they get it.

Three ints vs 1 passing TD, 7/16 for four yards per pass wasn’t fatal, but it was close enough. It’s a “throw for dough” offense, and they didn’t. Their run game wasn’t good enough either. Navy was efficient and consistent, Army just wasn’t productive
It seems to me that on fourth and short, coaches would usually be better off going for it even deep in their own territory. If you punt from deep in your territory, the other side will most likely be breathing down your neck very soon, so just go for it. Of course, if you're in field goal range, or you have a stout defense and a weak OL, those factors might indicate a punt. But I honestly think there are many more punts on 4th and short than are warranted. Coaches are averse to going for it because of the potential blowback if they don't make it. Punt on 4th and short from the 22, and no one will criticize the decision no matter if the other team scores in short order. But go for it and get stopped and the decision will be widely criticized. That has to be in the back of coaches' minds.

The playoffs are much better in my opinion than the Old and dying Bowl System. They selections were “rigged” for the Biwls.

The regular season matters a lot trying to get to a Conference Championship Game and the Playoffs.

Good insight I think.

I’m sure there are metrics that say punt but metrics are often just a cover excuse. I read somewhere that the metrics also suggest that you should on-side kick after every score but not many coaches would follow that metric.

Optics seem more and more important in a culture that feeds off of social media controversy. I swear it seems like people were more forgiving of coaching decisions that didn’t work out in years past. Now you can make absolutely the right decision and people will carp endlessly if it goes wrong.

It can be an epistemological dualism also.

I agree with you 100% the they are hands down one of the "luckiest" teams in the nation. However if there is ANY team that could be luckier it would be God's team with touchdown Jesus!

I don't think Freeman even needs to make the phone call. Last year we showed Alabama how to beat them and Saban was paying attention. This year the winner of ND and IND needs to watch our game against them and the second half of the SEC championship game when Stockton was in. That will tell them all they need to know about how to beat ugag. BTW, with Beck out for the remainder of the year, ugag ain't winning anyway.

It looks like Beck will not play for uga when they face Notre Dame or Indiana. He may be gone for whatever remains of the uga season.
I keep saying this but I hope teams will watch Stockton’s tapes. I watched him for several years in high school. He’s a good QB but he has a flaw in his game (minor, and don’t they all) that no one has exploited yet.

I would force him to run and let the physical banging around wear him down through the course of the game. Play coverage defense but send the occasional linebacker or free safety. Make him have to decide quickly whether to throw the ball away or take off running. He hasn’t played an entire game at the college level against a well coached defense. From high school until now he’s never had a moment to question himself. I hope Notre Dame shows him some things he’s never seen before in a football game.

They're not lucky, they're gifted calls by people that are on the take. Maybe not straight out bribes, but Uncle Billy gets a promotion or keeps his job, Aunt Sally gets a deal on a car, parent's rent payment never has to be paid, etc. Cheating ****s are what they are.
