I thought Stoudamire wanted Kelly to stay, but his NIL package was being reduced based on performance decline related to his being the obvious target of defenses. CDS did not control the NIL and attempted to assist Kelly in finding a good landing spot. I’m not an insider so no idea if any of that was true, but also thought Kelly offered lots of unsolicited praise for CSD. Also got the impression that CDS’s “earn” v “promise” playing time was a reason Moore entered the portal. With numerous elite level players around him to deflect defensive pressure at Auburn, it should surprise no one that Kelly is thriving there.
Kelly is getting more exposure, playing in the rocking Neville Arena, possibly making more NIL, and has a chance at winning the national championship. It’s hard to be mad at the kid. We are lucky he gave CDS a shot for one season.

Miami lost to Charleston Southern today. I don’t think we are anywhere near close to a bubble team so I’m not upset about the ACC NET ranking hits. It’s mostly just really funny to see how much they’ve fallen since the F4 squad.

It just means more… or something… apparently
Like it or not, SEC leadership has run absolute circles around the ACC. Not only do they dominate us in football, but now they dominate us in basketball which we had a stranglehold on 2 decades ago. The football programs generated immense amounts of funding and positive branding, and it has trickled down into the basketball teams now. It honestly DOES just mean more.

Like it or not, this is a little league, underfunded conference in 2024. We need to hope Angel Cabrera, Brent Key, and J Batt are able to drag our school into the 21st century, otherwise I have roughly 50 more years of life where my greatest non-personal love will not be capable of competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics.

Just watching Kelly quickly torch Duke.
I’m supportive of CDS, and hopes he does it, but that press conference when CDS first said “wait til I get my guys” and Kelly was sitting next to him after the loss. The look Kelly gave him. Oof.
Between significant transfers Moore and Kelly, it’s currently:
Transfers - 2
CDS - 0

ACC loses the 7pm games so now it's SEC beating ACC 11-1. Texas/NCSU is close but SEC is in control of the other 3 9pm games. Definitely highly plausible we could lose this challenge 15-1.

Elsewhere, Hilton Magic in Ames between #5 Marquette and #6 Iowa State and Creighton leads #1 Kansas in Omaha by 10 at halftime.

ESPN has done a lovely job mic'ing Cameron Indoor for this game. Feels like you're there when Duke hits a 3.

Duke's bench of Isaiah Evans and Caleb Foster has turned the Cameron Crazies courtside "seating" into a mosh pit. Isaiah Evans is having the absolute time of his life playing off the crowd going 6/8 from 3 in the 1st half. 43-36 Duke at half. Really fun game to watch. When Duke is an underdog in Cameron, which is not often, it makes for a really chaotic and fun environment.

Edit: they are not underdogs - they were 3.5 point favorites tonight but they are lower ranked than Auburn.

It is discouraging to watch the Jackets struggle and see Kelley start at Auburn, Smith startat St.Johns, and Moore start at Oklahoma, and Gapare contribute off the bench at Maryland. All of those teams appear to be headed to the big dance. I still have hope that Tech can turn it around this year and succeeed next year and beyond, but I’m not as confident in the programs’s direction as I was before the season began.
