After doing a little research, the Braves have 14 arbitration eligible players. Also, three guys have club options. Since Duvall turned down the 7 million mutual, Atlanta won’t have to pay the 3 m. buyout. Braves have until Dec. 2 to offer arbitration. They most likely will, and can still engage in talks up until a hearing. Projection:9.1 m.

I don’t think the offer him arb if $9M is the possible outcome.

Joc is beyond 6 full years of service. No arbitration. He is a repeater F.A. from the last free agent cycle(thus he becomes a U.F.A.), so compensation will be awarded to the Braves, should he not end up here in free agency. Atlanta does not owe the 2.5 m. option buyout to this player, because they didn’t decline the mutual option. Player declined the option. He is not a 10-5 player.

F.A. do not file any more for that status. Instead they must give or wait 5 days, so the former team gets a chance to sign them. Atlanta should have until Nov. 10 to negotiate, without competition. After that, it’s all 32 clubs choice to bargain.

[A] Compensatory Free Agent (“CFA”) shall be defined as an Unrestricted Free Agent(“UFA”) who: (i) signed with a new Club during the prior free agency signing period […] ... In its most general sense, players only become Compensatory Free Agents if they are free to leave their old team against that team's will.

He had a little over 400 AB’s, hit .249 w/Atl. and .230 for Chicago. 18 HR, 62 RBI.

To label a CFA either a type A or B, etc.-
Hitters are ranked based on the following statistics:
Plate appearances, batting average, on-base percentage, HR and RBI
Fielding percentage and assists (for catchers)
Fielding percentage and total chances (for 2B, 3B, and SS)

….and then I happened upon this, which would not allow compensation for the Braves on Joc Pederson……
Players who are ranked in the top twenty percent of their group are designated Type A free agents… those who place between 21 percent to 40 percent are designated as Type B. Clubs only receive compensation for a Type A or B free agent if they offered their former player the opportunity for salary arbitration.

Therefore, Atlanta could have not offered arbitration on a player beyond the qualifying years, per the last CBA.

Also, the loss of a type-C results in no compensation. if he had been classified as one.
