I put together a big excel db leveraging the 247 recruiting/team talent ratings since 2015. We should have an average player rating over .86 next year (first time we’ll have had that distinction since they started doing the team ratings in 2015).

Of the 25 ACC teams that have had average player ratings over .86 over that span, the overall conference win % is .642 and only 5 teams have finished below .500 in ACC play (17 UNC, 18 UNC, 17 FSU, 18 FSU, 20 FSU).

FSU is a prime example of a program going dormant due to complacency. They should be ashamed.

FSU is #2 and we're #6, and we've both been having OL issues for the last two years (FSU for 3). If we straighten out our blocking to middle-of-the-road ACC, I think our offense and kicking game is gonna cook.

On defense, we've been losing at the DT/NT spot against the big boys--that wasn't the only thing that hurt us, but against BC, Clemson, Notre Dame, and even Syracuse that was a problem. At Syracuse, those guys should have wreaked havoc, and we got no penetration. (I don't mean recruiting matchups--I mean we're losing battles at the line of scrimmage at that point).

We've got special athletes--we still need some special athletes at some particular locations.

I think our offense on particular could be pretty fun to watch next season for got a few reasons that have been mentioned such as a more seasoned O-Line and Sims with a year under his belt. I'm looking for the true impact of coach BK next year in particular.

Outside of Bill Lewis, every coach since Bobby Ross has qualified for a bowl game (Ross won 7 games in year 3, but there were not enough bowls during that time) by year 3. There's certainly enough talent next season to win 6-7+ games.
Talent, maybe, Coaching...that vote is still out. Schedule...Brutal. We will be favored in 3 games on our schedule next year.

If Talent was a measure....well just look at FSU.

So I stumbled across this composite talent ranking list.

#1 UGA
#4 Clemson
#34 Georgia Tech

We are ranked 6 in the ACC. Doesn't this mean we should start winning more games soon?
Should see more improvement next year. One thing to consider on that ranking is the youth of that talent. Our underclassmen are higher ranked than our upper. As that evens out we will improve.

While I'm charting stuff from CollegeFootballData.com

DL Recruiting rankings vs Defensive Rating (2018, using a 4 year average of DL recruiting ratings--left is better defense, up is higher rated recruits)

download (2).png

Here's our overall SP+ rating vs our 4 year average recruiting ratings in 2019 (right is better overall, up is better 4-year average recruiting ratings)
download (3).png

Coaching 'em up is a factor--and I'm not denying that--but we also have a hill to climb. Not as bad as BC, but it's a hill.

Now do starters only, or upperclassmen maybe?
I sort of laid that out in the preseason version of this topic.

Tl;dr, we lacked relevant experience in those at the top of the roster talent list.
