Braves traded Butler(an All-Star, & fan fav. like Riley, Freddie), future star 3B Jacoby, and a good young pitcher Rick Behanna, for Len “Lame” Barker. He got hurt, we got little to nothing from him. Mark Texiera was here for one year, supposedly to put us over the hump(which it didn’t, chemistry was horrible)for 5 young studs. Elvis Andrus an AStar SS, Jerrod Saltalamacchia another fan fav. Catcher, Matt Harrison a Pitcher valued like Wright is right now, Beau Jones an OF, and young Neftali Perez who was another Soroka. I think Mike might back me up, in that those were the worst two trades in Brave franchise history dating back to Boston? When you break your farm system up, it takes years to recover. The average HS player takes 6 years to scratch MLB. College prospects can typically get here in 4 years. Problem was, those were HS guys we gave up. Braves were shy drafting college dudes, until Alex insisted on the FD to start mixing it up. Back then, 1 out of 13 minor leaguers made the majors. It’s better now, since players stay in the minors longer, because of bonus money and MLB money is so much better now. I was offered 8k by the Cardinals out of a tryout camp at 16 y.o. So you might have needed to go through 100 prospects to come up with those 8 stud muffins the Indians and Rangers insisted on in trade. They don’t give their stars away.
