Yes. She played at Alabama.
I just confirmed this - the 30% participation medical redshirt rule only applies if you are injured. Because Kayla was not injured during her season Alabama, she used a year of eligibility and is not eligible for another season.

Not an expert on this but I believe Kowacie Reeves and Luke O'Brien both qualify for a medical redshirt if they wish to continue their tenures at Georgia Tech.

Her participation was 3 games. Unless there is a rule about midseason transfer, she was eligible for a regular redshirt year, not medical redshirt.

You need to have 0 games played in basketball for a redshirt, however you can apply for a medical redshirt if you play less than 30% of games. Football is unique in that you can play multiple games and still redshirt.

Sorry was driving around the kiddo around 285 to get her to sleep and then had guests over. Here are the stats.

The Ladies upped their game v BC with an absolutely smothering defense. Look at BC’s shooting % both beyond and inside the arc. That was not a failure to make open looks. That was an inability to find open looks. Tech also rebounded with ferocity. On offense, instead of mainly looking to pop threes, they worked everyone moving without the ball getting much better looks closer to the basket. Overall FG% was well above season average. Every defensive stop resulted in a fast transition race the other way. All of this much better than living or dying by the 3.

The intended fast pace did eventually take its toll as fatigue set in toward the end of period 3 and BC capitalized reducing a 26 point deficit to 15. A 4th quarter second-wind kept BC from any runs & the ladies pulled away to win by 20.

Referees Ray Creech & Bobby Ray ate breakfast together a table away from me at our hotel. Of course, I had no idea who they were until they appeared on court, no I can’t be accused of attempted bribery.

In light of @AUFC s comment about, that makes sense. I bet she could sue the NCAA and get that year of eligibility back.
Probably not so. Before the leniency in allowing transfers immediate eligibility at the new school, Blackshear & McQueen(Loyal left GT for Alabama)both were required to sit out a year per the NCAA rule book at that time. The exception being if you were not enrolled for Winter Semester at the old school, you could transfer & start playing after Fall Semester of that next season.

I'm not sure if that's a reference to Diego Pavia but his situation is much different - he sued the NCAA for extra eligibility on the grounds that his junior college season should not count against his eligibility. From my knowledge, there is no grounds at the moment for Blackshear to reacquire eligibility for that Alabama season.

Lots of people have sued the NCAA for additional eligibility for lots of reasons (some of them actually made sense). Maybe this would be the landmark suit to eliminate the archaic 5 to play 4 rule that is so earnings-restrictive to these student-athletes. I mean, my goodness! She only got the first 3 games of her freshman year to build her NIL earnings potential. If the NCAA doesn't allow a full 4th year, then they are hindering her ability to earn the NIL she rightly deserves.

Those were the old rules when the NCAA wasn't litigation-adverse.

I mean that's obviously in the > 0% chance realm of possibility but she is probably better off landing an $80k/yr job with Deloitte than opening a lawsuit with hopes of making $25,000 next season in NIL.
