I dont see how they keep the season going at this rate. It isnt fair to other teams to sit out of competition and fall behind in standing. I can see the MLB just throwing up their hands on this issue. They tried to play and now they will be scrutinized by the media until they are forced to shutdown. WATCH. Twitter is currently a dumpster fire and god forbid if you go against the masses over there. You run the risk of being bullied, doxxed and threatened with violence.
Why would it have anything to do with that "the media" says about them? Their plan to play was ill-conceived and, apparently, their plan in the event of a breakout was even worse.
What's that got to do with the media or the social media rabble?

News just broke that the Cardinals-Brewers game has been cancelled today because of positive tests on the Cardinals. I haven't seen any more detailed information yet.
That means that 20% of MLB won't be playing tonight because of positive tests. I'm not saying this is the end of the season, but they need to figure out how to handle things better if they want to get in all 60 games.

If the response to positive tests is to shut things down, then they shouldn't have restarted in the first place. Just highlights there really is no plan.

Yeah this sucks. I think there's a lot of COVID running around and with the MLB players changing cities and surroundings so much, not that surprising.
This story implies that Manfred is blaming the players for the COVID cases by telling Players Association Clark to tighten up. One team has two support staff with COVID, other two teams have players. The statement blaming the players just shows the really bad blood between the owners and players. The MLB plan that was negotiated with the players union was basically an honor system. They test every other day. They have standards of conduct for the players to follow, but no monitoring or enforcement. The NBA has everyone in an isolated bubble. At the moment, that plan seems to be working better. Reports have said that the players union would not agree to a bubble. They wanted the freedom to move around as they please when not at the stadiums.
My understanding is that the Marlins voted whether to play the last game in Philadelphia precisely because the MLB plan had nothing with regard to an outbreak on a team. If you have half of the players test positive: Is it worth playing from a competitive standpoint? Is that an indication of spread among the team at work instead of each individual player contracting the virus outside of work? Is it a sign of spread on the field?: According to reports, the MLB plan did not even address this issue, so it has to be lacking with respect to a breakout.

According to ESPN, the Cardinals now have 13 players and staff (7 players, six staff) who are positive for COVID-19, after the number was 4 over the weekend. Looking less like the issue is players not obeying all of the rules and more like the MLB procedures don't prevent spread.
The good news is that no players from opposing teams of the Marlins or Cardinals have tested positive yet. The bad news is that in my opinion, the MLB is going to have to figure out why inter-team spread is happening so much or the season is in jeopardy.

Marlins players hung out at bars and it seems some Cards players went to a casino.
The lack of positive Phillies tests makes me optimistic about the likelihood of inter team spreading during a game. But intra team spreading seems almost inevitable. Doesn't bode well for other sports.

"Some" Miami players hung out at bars, and some "St Louis" players went to a casino. I don't think 60% of the Marlins were at bars, nor 23% of the Cards players at the casino. Also as I understand it the casino trip was more than three weeks ago, so the virus should have showed up by now if that was the cause.
I think it is apparent that the virus is spreading within a team once a player on that team is infected. They will have to make more modifications to protocols if the plan to continue the season.
