This was a really solid win, and you can see the progress gained from the last game carry over to this one. ND gave us all they had in the second half and we responded, which is a really good sign that this team hasn't given up. They are starting to remind me of some of Pastner's teams that, for whatever reason, didn't hit their stride until late in the season (usually too late, which is probably the case with this team, but we will see). Here are some thoughts:
What I liked:
-I am so thankful that McCollum wasn't hurt badly in that last game. He continued his good play here and it gives our team such a confidence boost. He really is that guy--the guy that can get a bucket anytime we need it and stop the scoring droughts that we often find ourselves in. He might not score 21 a night, but his influence the last two games has been huge.
-We finally cut down on the TOs! Yay! Only 8 this game.
-The defense maintained the intensity for most of the game. I do think we got a little tired and lazy in the second half chasing their shooters, but overall, the effort we have seen in spurts is starting to come more consistently.
-Big shoutout to Duncan Powell. With Reeves and O'Brien on the bench, we absolutely need him to hustle, hit threes, and do some dirty work under the basket. He came through in a big way.
What I didn't like:
-Ndongo's inconsistency. Foolish fouls and turnovers. He can still be a force inside, but the other stuff really needs to stop. He is a better player than what he is showing right now. I do see now that DO was a better inside partner than Souare or Mutumbo, but Baye needs to play smart for us to make any kind of run. He is so talented.
-14 ORebs for ND and 15 second chance points is too many, but I am being nit-picky.
This is the kind of game we have needed for the last two months. Energy and intensity on defense, good shot selection and more motion on offense=winning basketball. Let's keep it up! Go Jackets!
