First game with the Sooners since we beat them at the AMC 30 years ago. Let’s hope Javian gets the OK after concussion protocol to take the court against his former team and that the trees in the paint can hold Jalon Moore to a modest statline.

Oklahoma should be Top 25 after winning the Battle 4 Atlantis. Lloyd Noble should be rocking for their undefeated team’s first home game against a power conference foe. Win this one and we notch a Q1 win and get back on track before beginning ACC play in Chapel Hill next weekend.

9pm tip so find your best espresso martini recipe and Oklahoma Onion burger and get excited for a night of ACC/SEC Challenge hoops.

Also special shoutout to grab tickets to Wednesday evening’s WBB tip in McCamish for our 6-0 Jackets against 8-0 Mississippi State.

I’m not sure this one turns out well for us. We’ve yet to look remotely capable against decent competition.

I haven't watched any Oklahoma this season but what I'm seeing metric-wise is that these guys play relatively slow on offense (not UVA levels) but generate good looks and knock down shots with a high efficiency. Their guards Jeremiah Fears and Kobe Elvis are extremely talented and excellent distributors. Our friend Jalon Moore has added a 3 pointer to his game and is knocking down over 1.5 of them per game at a 42% clip. The whole team are excellent from the free throw line but don't get there at a huge clip b/c of their more perimeter-centric offense that isn't hugely dependent on finishing at the rim.

They play tough defense and force a lot of turnovers - our guards have taken care of the ball quite well this season so the difference in the game may be who gets the edge there. They guard the perimeter well but are very beatable in the paint so we'll need big games from Baye and DO. Let's hope the Nait-Baye connection is firing on all cylinders. I suspect CDS might try to feed those 2 early and force Oklahoma to start helping out. Our 3 point shooting has been underwhelming this season, compared to how talked up it was in preseason. It would be a great game for Wacie, Luke, and DO to start dropping them but I would not anticipate many open looks unless Baye/DO are having their way down low.

Bart Torvik has us as 9.5 point underdogs with a 19% chance of winning.

Injuries figure big on GT ability to take on elite teams. Would be nice to get McCollum, Reeves & Sutton back. Even with an ok to play, being away from practice & game action makes it tough to immediately impact on return. Foul trouble needs to be avoided with a thin roster so defense might be looser than desired. Hope Sooners don’t have their A game. Tix are going for $1 on SeatGeek, so at least our guys will probably be playing in front of a crowd that feels like being home.

I watched Oklahoma play Louisville in the final of the holiday tournament in the Bahamas. They have good guards. Their freshman point guard, Fears, is extremely talented. He got into a little foul trouble in the first half against Louisville, so he didn’t play as much as usual, but he still made an impact in the second half. I wasn’t that impressed by Hepburn, Louisville’s point guard, even though the commentators were hyping him as one of the best point guards in the league. He wasn’t really able to penetrate and create offense off the dribble through the Oklahoma defense, so I’m intrigued to see whether our guards can do any better against Oklahoma’s perimeter defense.

Jalon Moore has turned into a beast down low, and he can also shoot the three, so Georgia Tech’s big men will really have their work cut out for them. Moore scored 24 in that final, and he did not have a flashy game. He just converted at a very high rate. If he were to really go off, he could probably put up 35.

As an aside, Louisville botched an inbound play with about five or six seconds left on the clock and down by a basket, which sealed the game for Oklahoma. Louisville‘s new coach Pat, Kelsey, at first appeared not to know what happened then became convinced that the Oklahoma player had crossed over the out of bounds line and interfered with the Louisville player inbounding the ball. Replay showed that the Oklahoma player never crossed the line. He just did a good job of defending the inbounds pass. After the buzzer, Kelsey stormed onto the court and got into the face of one of the referees. Then in the handshake line, he basically gave a snub to Porter Moser, the Oklahoma coach, who then gave him a double take look of shock and amazement. As a GT fan, it was very reminiscent of the clown Collins handshake with Narduzzi at the end of the Pittsburgh football game. My take away is that Pat Kelsey seems to be a douche.

They are following current arena trends and opening their version of Baylor's Foster Pavilion. We're lucky to be playing there now because it's going to be a very hard place to win a road game in a few years.

The expectation would be that Tech has another lackluster game against a good team. If the injuries don’t slow us, and the team continues to build chemistry with each other, this game could be a turning point. My expectations are low but I will watch with interest.

Just to clarify the women are now 7-0. Anyone who hasn't seen them play should check them out. They are a very good 3point shooting team and the Freshman Carnegie, who was the player of the year in Georgia last year, looks very good along with the point guard Wright. Both of them come off the bench but usually enter the game after the first few minutes. Leading rebounder from last year Blackshear also comes off the bench giving us more depth than we have seen in a long time. We have 9 players averaging 6 or more PPG with the freshman Carnegie leading the way at 14.4.

Also, Kara Dunn is a HOOPER. Team is very fun to watch.
