I agree with what you say. This is the best team we've had since at least 2010. I went tonight. These very early games are when you need to create some excitement. Our last 2 coaches were horrible to start seasons. I don't think CDS is going to tolerate that.
I love these early season games. When no one shows up, my kids and I move down to row 1 in our section.

It feels like you’re part of the game. Tonight my son was dapping up the players when they came outta the game like he was on the end of the bench.

Me and the wife and son enjoyed a good night at McCamish.

The team looked good. Mccollum looked good and scored 18. O’Brien looked good and almost had a double double. Pulled down 10 boards. He couldn’t buy a 3 pointer though. 3 point shooting basically sucked for everyone except McCollum. Reeves looked good. He made some highlight reel plays as he does. Nait had 7 assists to 1 turnover.

Things got pretty sloppy down the stretch. GT had 50 at half and was still almost on pace to get 100 through 3/4 of the game. I think we hit 75 with about 9:30 to go. However, then we only scored 10 points in the last 10 minutes of the game and we played bad defense and fouled a lot. We only “won” the second half by 2 points. We finished the game making 1 of our last 11 shots.

In the first half we were passing the ball and we assisted on a high percentage of shots. We were also screening. However, in the last 10 minutes of the game it looked like a lot of 5 out, isolation, 1v1, hero ball. Oh well, that happens sometimes when a team gets a big lead on a lesser team that is physically outmatched. On the drive home, I heard some scores from other games around the country that indicate other favored teams in our same position also played down to the competition.

All in all, it’s good to start the season with a win. I am looking forward to being back at McCamish on Sunday!

We had trouble staying in front of them on defense, but our back line help was able to clean most things up. They were terrible around the rim.

We killed them on the boards.
I thought our true freshman kind of struggled with the exception of Mustaf who did some nice things. I guess that’s fine given it was their first true college game.

20 assists on 33 made buckets tonight by the way. Only 12 turnovers, and I think a good chunk were committed before the first TV timeout which can probably be chalked up to nerves. I saw Javian show that he can draw defenses in and dump nifty passes off for easy layups and then I also saw him slash his way into the paint and finish at the rim. Oh yeah, he's also a career 90% free throw shooter on 250 attempts. The program has not seen a player like him since Jose. And we've all heard in interviews that DO and Luke are knockdown from the perimeter - the feeds from Nait and Javian were there, this was simply a bad shooting night from both of them. North Florida may not be so lucky.

Seriously, as Jon Rothstein would say: buy stock now. This team is very talented, they play fast, and they play exciting. I won't be present for the Georgia game next weekend but I hope you guys who are there treat it like scream therapy and set the new paradigm for McCamish. We have a in-all-likelihood Top 20 Cincinnati visiting McCamish in a couple Saturdays and I have zero qualms about helping to bring my entire section to its feet when we open the game on a 5-0 run.

Didn’t get a chance to watch tonight. I’ll have to watch online tomorrow. Looks like we shot poorly from 3. Hopefully that turns around with more time together. Otherwise stats look solid. Not a horrible amount of turnovers which is nice to see from game 1.
No, not really. Some 3s from those that wont necessarily take a lot of 3s. Fewer 3s from those that will take more 3s. A lot of dribble penetration from those guys.

RIGHT!!??
Coach Stoudamire and staff have put together some talent! To me, Lance Terry off the bench says a lot about how deep our roster is this year. We were moving the ball like an NBA team out there on scoring plays. And would've had 20+ assists but we shot the ball under 30% from 3. Great showing tonight. GO JACKETS

O'Brien looked good, but was 0-4 outside the arc. Rebounding was good. The game was a weird combo of looking better than West Georgia, looking rough, and looking like there's potential.

Welcome to this season's first edition of "What I liked and what I didn't like." I'm no professional basketball analyst, but I love to watch the game! Here is what I saw...

What I liked:
-McCOLLUM!!! This is the baller that we needed, and he is the kind of player that will take us to the promise-land. He can score on all three levels, get a bucket when we really need one, and defends really well too (4 steals!). I was really impressed with his game. Having him and Nait together is pure gold.
-49-25 rebounding advantage. Ok, yeah, we should out-rebound a team like this, but I saw good block-outs and a "GIMME THAT BALL!" attitude that will lead to success against any team. Yay for rebounding!
-It probably goes without saying, but both Nait and Baye are so smooth on the court. They make hard plays look easy.
-O'Brien and Reeves both play hard and know the game well. They are excellent "role players" that could be stars on lesser teams. I loved O'Brien's cuts to the basket and Reeves' aggressiveness.
-Somebody said it in the other thread, but the drop-off from Baye to D.O. is not nearly like what it was from Baye to (whoever) last year. I love having some real depth, which will certainly come in handy throughout the year. D.O. has some huge potential, and I liked his willingness to pop the three. Good to see some of Mustaf and Sutton, too. It's nice that we don't need them to be 20+ min. players right now and they can be brought along at a good pace.

What I didn't like:
-Why no minutes for Mutombo and the walk-ons? Come on, coach, give them some run!
-Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. We had too many unforced TOs, and ended the game with more TOs and less steals that West Georgia. That needs to be fixed.
-26% on three-pointers? Yuck. I'm not sure if it was just first-game jitters or maybe the wrong guys shooting, but there were a lot of bricks out there.

The most important stat is 1 win and 0 losses. Let's keep that going! Go jackets!

The college game is blazing fast compared to high school and AAU. These kids will catch up.

nice win, LOVED how we shared the ball. almost everybody contributed.

McCollum will fill the void Kelly left, tbh he looks much more consistent than MK.

now onto North Florida, who BEAT SOUTH CAROLINA so we cannot overlook them.

He was only 0-4? Felt like a lot more than that.

btw Baye looks slimmer, fast and agile

I was there, and Baye looked athletic, fast and agile. I’m not sure about slimmer. I read somewhere on this board that he has gained 40 pounds since last year (not sure if that’s true). I barely recognized him at first. He also changed his hair a bit, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Really? I definitely thought he was bulkier last season
