Just a couple of observations from my perspective...

I am by no means an expert. I have played basketball all my life and coached it as well. I am familiar with both sides.

X's and O's
It didn't look like any cohesive or structured offensive or defensive scheme was being ran for much of the game. Much of what we did on defense was just straight man to man (with the exception of the zone at the end). Javian McCollum could have avoided further foul trouble if we had moved to a zone defense sooner imo. Offensively we looked to lean way too heavily upon the pick and roll and not much else to admire within the offensive scheme implemented by CDS. Not saying CDS is not capable but I just didn't see much to admire scheme wise. The movement off the ball was sluggish imo. UGA played up on us so tight it seemed concerning that no back door cuts were made.

Jimmy's and Joe's
I understand completely that Mustaf is a true freshman. However, to be so highly rated and sought after he appeared to be completely lost on the floor. This to me is even more concerning with regards to my "scheme" comments above. Hopefully he grows and is not a bust.

Losing out on Tiller and likely Wilson is very disheartening. Hopefully we land Sylla, land a big fish from the portal, or the ones we signed over achieve.

Lance Terry showed great promise as did Doryan Onwuchekwa. Luke O'Brien needs to be given the opportunity to shoot the 3 more.

Darrion Sutton, Ryan Mutombo, and Duncan Powell never saw the floor. Injured possibly???

Overall
There just wasn't much of a silver lining for me not only for this game but being 2-2 and not really facing a ranked opponent or anyone on the road thus far... But hopefully CDS does what we all hope he will.

Regarding Sutton, Powell, and Mutumbo.

Sutton had a, minor I believe, injury after the first game against west Georgia. Although he played sparingly in garbage time during the west Georgia game and looked a lot like a deer in the headlights. His first shot was an airball, and on a 1v1 isolation opportunity he travelled and turned the ball over. I suspect he is just not ready for prime time.

Powell got a good bit of playing time in the first 2-3 games and forced a disproportionately high number of bad shots that were essentially turnovers. I suspect CDS is letting him cool his jets on the bench until he learns to play more within himself and let the game come to him.

Mutumbo, despite his obvious height, was not a very productive player during his time at Georgetown, and most seemingly knowledge observers have indicated that he is expected to be primarily a practice player here. Too bad.

Serious question...Do you think Kowacie's disappearing act is on CDS? How about Nait not being able to throw it in the ocean?

Damon is right, the mental make-up of this team is not good at the moment. When things start going bad, we haven't responded very well.

Baye is our most talented, also seems the most disinterested. Damon said that the transition from freshman to sophomore can be really tough, and I think that we are seeing that first hand for Baye and Nait.

Not sure what's going on with Wacie, but we are not going to beat anyone if he puts up goose eggs across the board. We need him, Baye, and Nait for this team to be successful, its as simple as that.

For those ****ting on UGA, you may want to start paying attention. They have a talented team and Mike White has them playing well.
No, I don’t. I’ve never been one to blame a coach when players are missing wide open shots or displaying poor decision making. These are the same reasons I look at what my Bruins did yesterday and say “what?”

Agreed that CMW is a hell of a coach, especially on the defensive side. But for the first time in quite a while I looked at a GT roster and said: Yes, that’s (at the low end) a bubble team.

That’s not what I’ve seen so far. Fridays game is a serious revenge spot (or should be) for some of these guys. They were embarrassed by Cincy last year. A real opportunity to assess the mentality/make up of this team.

My first reaction was being upset at the level of physicality that was allowed by uGA. Then, I got upset that we didn't respond to it. Mental makeup seemed weak on our side. We responded some but didn't maintain. That was the disappointing piece for me.

Only one that seemed 'comfortable' in that game was Doryan. Everybody else kinda faded in and out.

Agree uGA will be good this year especially if their shooting improves.

Agreed...The spat that occurred with McCollum near our bench was a perfect illustration of our mental make-up. We were tough then, but not when we were getting our asses whipped in the paint.

UGA guys were winning and talking ****, and we took offense to it and let them get under our skin, rather than buckling down and stopping them.

I've seen that in multiple games this year. We need to stop talking about it and be about it.

Yeah, 'toughness' is displayed in how you play in not how you fight.

Problem is it's hard to 'get' that without changing personnel, imho. It can happen tho, so that's what I'm rooting for - for us to finally get it.

Shiii, get Jose A to talk to the team. Him and Usher had it in spades.
