Also…couple more things…the announcers made some comment prior to the game about CDS said something along the lines of COFH is starting to make more sense to him. Made me think of the comment Paul Johnson said in like 2009 that pissed a lotta folks off.

Also, I feel like basketball teams these days basically have a new roster every year. Doesn’t bode well for chemistry or passion for your school and its rivalries. Half of our football team doesn’t know the fight song. I’d bet most of our basketball team doesn’t. Wonder if Damon does? I know that may be petty to some, but to me it’s an indicator of issues with the bigger picture.

Slow starts a couple years in a row. If it improves again it feels like a “figure things out in the early season” to me which isn’t necessarily the best fit for the college postseason format but may be increasingly unavoidable with player movement anyway.

But for tonight I didn’t have issues with the approach. George and Ndongo just have to make more of their shots. Hard to coach around 7-26 of two of your returning guys.

Onwuchekwa looks better and better though IMO. If the Stoudamire tenure is successful it’s going to be because the overall talent level continues to rise.

We obviously have issues with stopping guys off the dribble plus offense sloppiness. With that said, give him some time. I think more playing time for Terry and Mustaf. We need their toughness and ability to go for the hole. Mustaf will get better as he plays - he has talent and Terry just needs to get some rust off. We still have issues but it's a bit early to draw too many conclusions.

Can’t agree on mustaf. I don’t see much of anything there. He looks out of shape and slow. Poor ball handling skills. Don’t know if he can shoot because he never shoots. His only move is a covering the ball up with two hands like a fullback and shouldering through people for a layup. It worked against lousy high schoolers that didn’t want to play defense. It doesn’t work against good college players. Tonight he got one stuffed back in his face and he committed a charging foul on another. He wasn’t ready for a game like this one. He should’ve been kept on the bench or given 2 minutes max.

Angry about how bad we looked
Me too. I don’t even know where to start. Complete crap. Lance Terry was the only player making a difference out there tonight. Hats off to onwucheckwa too. He plays mean and I like it. Seemed like ndongo missed a million shots. Nait had a horrible game, but I put it more on stoudamire for not seeming to have an answer for the ball pressure that the leg humpers were applying way out on the perimeter.

Clark county correctional college scored 46 points in the paint, and just like north Florida, it was primarily off of dribble penetration. More lousy defense by stoudamire’s team. Ugag shot 61% in the second half. They beat us handily while only making 3 treys all night.

Kowacie, the stat sheet stuffer, was nonexistent. Literally, in 19 minutes his stat line was almost all zeros, except for a few missed shots and 2 personal fouls. Consequently he didn’t get much playing time in the second half.

I don’t know man. That second half I saw our guys in good positions, but simply miss wide-open shots. Also, unfortunately, I think Georgia is a good team. I think we need this year and next to see what we have in CDS.
Nah, I don’t think so. Uga looks average to crappy, just like our team. A decent team would have run them out of the gym in the first 10 minutes.

In case you don’t want to read, this is a nit-picking post unrelated to the game.

Aside from all the important things that caused us to lose this game, there was one person that annoyed the crap out of me and it’s not the first time this has happened. Just so happened it was punctuated in the cofh game. Jon Babul is a 4 year bball player at Tech. I understand that he is drawing a check from outlets other than Tech when he calls these games, but my heavens. Have some school pride. Don’t say “sic em dogs, boom!”, or drag out the “dawwwwwgs on top ” when you have been given the privilege of having a mic in front of you. Wiley is so professional in what he does and the way he calls the games, but at the same time you can tell where his allegiance lies. Babul has a lot of work to do. Again, picking nits but was really annoying throughout the game. I can’t imagine a Larry Munson type announcer on the other side, when given a mic on his home court, praising Tech by saying go jackets, sting em.

I like CDS, the direction of recruiting and his coaching staff. I hope he quickly adopts, like NOW, an urgency to early season games in college basketball. I sense an NBA state of mind to his start of season - the “it’s a long season, we have to figure some things out, they’ll get there”. In the NBA, sure, you got 82 games to navigate things, and get into playoff position. In college, some of these early losses are likely resume killers for a team that may be .500 in conference. At the very least, I wish he had conveyed an every possession matters attitude; the season has started, it’s on, we’re not waiting til game 10 to play with max effort and energy. It feels like an “ease into the season”,” figure some things out”, “we’ll get better” - all that is implied, of course these things will happen, but the intensity has to be elevated for this program at this time. I think CDS could be great for years, but dang, would just love winning intensity now, and sustain it for 30 games - that’s really not that many games to “get up” for.

To me Ndongo looks out of shape. He is slower around the rim and his defense has left alot to be desired. Nate had an off game tonight as well. We won’t win with those two playing like they did tonight. On the positive side I love the way Lance Terry plays! Glad to have him back and healthy again.
