We get caught out of position on defense with guys trying to double team or multiple guys going to guard an open player. That is going to leave somebody else open and we have gotten burned way too often as a result. If that is our defensive strategy, it is very high risk.

True story: we're listening to the pregame on 92.9 as we're driving to the game and Andy Demetra says, in addition to all the other injuries, Lance Terry isn't playing. I got on my phone and took Clemson -3 for the first half and Clemson -6 for the game. I love my Jackets, but come on, that's easy money.

I'm proud of how hard our guys competed, as shorthanded as we were.

Have to admit I took the same bet for the game when I heard Terry wasn't playing. I agree we played hard. I do think they need some more help from the offensive scheme.

Clemson toyed with us in that game. Any time we got close, they just clamped down and extended the lead. GT never led in that game.

Clemson's extended ball pressure on the perimeter pretty much stuffed us. They didn't respect any inside scoring threat from GT

An offensive rebound came off the boards for a 50-50 ball between Ndongo and Clemson guard Chase Hunter. Hunter won the board.

There are more problems here than injuries.

Better than the SMU loss for sure. The cold start was bad but we managed to dig our way out of it. Having no Lance hurt us. Interested to see how we do when we play Clemson again if we’re fully healthy.
You’ll never know because we will not be fully healthy for the rest of the season.

What you are seeing is a version of what is currently in vogue when it comes to teaching man to man defense. Too much emphasis on help defense in my opinion and not enough hard pressure defense on the ball. A couple of dribbles and a couple of passes will often find a shooter wide **s open.

That's how every team should defend us. Every team should pick-up the ball at halfcourt and you will shut us down every time.

Or when Nait gets put in a screen and immediately loses all sense of direction and man-responsibility. Seriously, watch him play on-ball through a screen, there's little to no communication on how him and the big will defend it and many times he's double-teaming a dude in the corner while his man is running wide open down the lane.

Absolutely. This has proven out over and over dating back to last season. Point guard play let us down big-time last night, but in their defense, they don’t really have anywhere to go with the ball because the other four guys are just standing on the perimeter doing nothing. When your point guard is looking for a bail out as soon as he crosses mid court and is willing to give the ball to your five man 30 feet from the basket you’ve got major problems.

I didn’t see it that way. I think we pushed them harder than they expected. Their bench didn’t play much. We have no answer for a big Euro. But we made it difficult for him. 35 year old Zachery was the difference maker 🙄

yeah but with like Terry and/or Reeves back...
It doesn't really matter who you stick in the corner at this point. Nobody on the team can get past step 1 of the offense, which is to demand perimeter defenders leave their guy to prevent a layup. Miles Kelly's +12 gain in 3P% this season at Auburn tells you pretty much everything you need to know.
