  1. Matt Harpring and Jerry Mays

It was amazing seeing this 160 pound back slither through tiny cracks most of us didn't know were there. A unique player and a throwback to a generation of pony backs from an earlier era. Happy to see Jerry is doing well today.
  2. In your opinion, what are the top five games ever played at BDS/Grant/Hyundai Field?

This one saved our season and National Championship. Nov 15, 1952 vs. Alabama. I believe this may have been the first nationally televised college (regular season?) football game. Alabama was ahead 3-0 in the second half, first down on our 5 yard line and an opportunity to basically put the...
  3. UNC 2024 Post Game

As a North Carolinian, the last two Saturdays have been really satisfying. Jamal Haynes reminds me of some of the great pony backs that used to star for us in the Dodd era. Here's hoping we can get King back in good health and have a great close. Go Jackets!
  4. Bark Madly Picks

It's interesting to read the opinions of Tech fans on various writers. Bisher gets lots of accolades now and deservedly so, but when I was at Tech ('58 - '62), Jesse Outlar of the Constitution was much preferred by us over the Journal's Furman Bisher.
  5. Bark Madly Picks

I like Bradley. Not a Tech homer, but not an UGA homer either. Good knowledgable writer with a reasoned approach. We could do much worse.
  6. Batt preparing Georgia Tech for ‘major shift’ in college athletics

Having gone to a Tenn/Ala game in Neyland in the 90s, I can assure you it will be different.
  7. Conference Realignment

When I was at Tech (Class of '62) the Auburn game was THE big game to most students - especially out-of-state students like me. Auburn had some terrific teams, and the Georgia game over Thanksgiving weekend, when many of us had gone home, was just not that big a deal. I would say Auburn...
  8. Your First GT QB

I was a freshman in '58 and had spent summers in Atlanta before that. When the one platoon thing hit, Dodd frequently stated that he would start his best defensive players. And he wasn't shy about punting on third down (to the consternation of many Tech fans). The '56 team's starting FB was...
  9. Your First GT QB

I was at that Duke game (14-14) with my father. Back in the 50's, the Tech-Duke series was one of the great rivalries in the South. Difficult to choose between Dodd's 51, 52 and 56 teams. The 52 team had six All Americans (3 offense, 3 defense). The 56 team played in the one platoon era and...
  10. Your First GT QB

That was a really tough loss. I could barely pick it up on radio from Charlotte. Crucial play IIRC was an intermediate pass from single wing tailback Majors that went for a long gain when Tech's two best defensive backs (Mitchell and Rotenberry) collided and took themselves out of the play.
  11. Your First GT QB

Frank Broyles (1946), then Jimmy Southard (1947-49)
  12. Adidas Contract Expiring

We will be able to expand our fan base and negotiate a better apparel deal when we become a consistent winner.
  13. What is the greatest game ever played at BDS at Grant/Hyundai Field?

I'll say the 1952 Alabama game, which we won 7-3 - IMO the decisive win in our National Championship season. The highlight was perhaps the greatest goal line stand in Tech history, with little 160 pound Jakie Rudolph turning Alabama's Bobby Marlow upside down on his head on 4th and goal at the...
  14. Conference Realignment

If private schools were included, high odds Stanford would be included due to the breadth of their program, which is supported by a huge athletic endowment. In the 2023-24 academic year, Stanford has 36 varsity sports—20 for women, 16 for men (sailing is a co-ed sport). In addition to its...
  15. 2023 Coaching Carousel

IMO Ted was terrific LB and has always been a great Tech man, but he was not a good DC at Tech and several other places, most recently OU. I hope he finds a good fit elsewhere.
  16. Conference Realignment

Opting out of bowl games is relatively new and feels like it's becoming the new normal for players on teams not in the playoffs - not just for those entering the draft but also those entering the transfer portal. I understand the motivation, but I don't have to like it.
  17. Conference Realignment

I used to hear quite often that football is a team game. Now, apparently, not so much.
  18. The Changing Face of Football in America

    I'm losing interest.....
  19. Transfer Portal: Who do we need to target this offseason?

The cost of a good QB via Transfer Portal ($1-2M) according to Nebraska's Matt Rhule (Sims mentioned): https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39007978/nebraska-matt-rhule-prefers-developing-own-players-portal
  20. Missed Tackles

Not sure I trust PFF (whoever they are). Our secondary looked more like a bunch of matadors than football players against Louisville. We need big improvement here.
