  1. What made the Cremins years so special?

The Cremins era was special for many reasons. First, Bobby Cremins was the nicest, most enthusiastic person you'd ever meet. He'd accept invitations to talk at a Fraternity or a Dorm after practice and he'd stay for hours. No drop by for 10 minutes, check the box, and move on stuff from him...
  2. Top 10 All-Time GT Men's Basketball Teams

84-85 is at the top of the list for me. We lost to Georgetown because Price was absolutely wiped out physically from the previous game (per one of the assistants) and was leaving his jumper short. Worst shooting performance of his career, and he was getting open looks.
  3. CBK Presser

Dodd (to my knowledge) never operated in conditions that were as polarizing as what we have today. Today, if you relaxed at a bowl game and subsequently lost the game, you'd be pilloried on everything from ESPN to this message board.
  4. Dorms

Breakfast there wasn't bad in the '80's. But Junior's was better (and less expensive).
  5. What is the best single-game performance you've seen out of a Tech player?

Roof came in and out of that game multiple times. When he was out, Georgia ran at will. When he was in, we were the Steel Curtain.
  6. What is the best single-game performance you've seen out of a Tech player?

Remember how that happened? We intercepted a 4th down pass. If we'd knocked it down, we'd have been 20 (?) yards better off and UT/Revitz would have never had a shot at that FG.
  7. Dorms

The only changes in Glenn 25 years later were a phone in each room and it had been flipped to a women's dorm. It still had urinals in the community restrooms circa 1987...
  8. Today’s the day for Paul Johnson and Ralph Friedgen

How long are we allowed to hold him under? ;-)
  9. Today’s the day for Paul Johnson and Ralph Friedgen

He did. Remember his first game at BDS as Maryland's head coach? They got a last minute win because we didn't run out the clock intelligently.
  10. Dorms

One of my jobs when I was at Tech was dorm repairs. Minor stuff like fixing interior doors, patching holes in the wall, disassembling sky racks people abandoned. Stuff like that. One day I was given a work order to add a second bookshelf in one of the rooms in Techwood. Supposedly, all two...
  11. GT/FSU rivalry in the 90s

FSU intentionally beat up QB's back in that era. It was the trademark of Mikey Andrews, their DC. An acquaintance of mine who played for him (and later had a nice NFL career) referred to him as a "mean old man". One year, FSU prided itself on knocking 7 (?) QB's out of the game. Joe only...
  12. Dorms

I know exactly who you are. You and I had a horiffic calculus class with some German prof back in the day. Just brutal. For what it worth, I'm having lunch today with another Towers cohort.
  13. Dorms

You didn't stay long enough. I was there 5 years. First floor for 2, then third floor for 3. Loved every minute of it. Although, I do remember the first time I set foot in the building was before move-in day, probably in late August '82. One of the outside doors was open and my date and I...
  14. Get Old, Stay Old... What Happened??

I think the current crop of upperclassmen was compromised by the Pastner/Bell SNAFU. Hard to get old when you have air in the recruiting pipeline for a year or two. IMO, the question is when do we start recruiting well? I'm not talking McD's AA's, I'm talking the occasional top 20 recruit and...
  15. Let’s discuss: Should Joe Hamilton have won the Heisman in 1999?

The Wake loss really hurt and he had a poor game that day. Seemed to be pressing to erase a 10 point deficit on one play, which turned into an interception or two. But he was by far the best player that year. And GT was 8-4 that year including being thumped by Miami in bowl game. That game was...
  16. NIL, Transfers, and Stratospheric Salaries. What Is the Future of GT Football and College Football in General?

Being the coach, AD, or possibly President of a P5 school pays better than being the coach, AD, or maybe President of one of those *other* types of schools.
  17. Brent Key Introductory Press Conference

You can win 50% of your games just by being competent. I think we have 7-8-9 win talent on the roster, but it has been poorly coached. Better coaching (which ain't hard, relative to TFG) will get us to a winning record. To exceed that, we need next level coaching (See: The Ralph Friedgen)...
  18. Brent Key Introductory Press Conference

Same here. I really, really, disliked TFG dissing the prior regime. I thought that was classless and had to "lose the room" with the returning players.
  19. Brent Key Introductory Press Conference

Why? His offense handed them their assets multiple times. His defenses, on the other hand...
  20. Atlanta congestion, traffic, quality of life

Regardless of what you want, developers stand to make more money selling bigger houses on smaller lots. They are like the ocean "working" the beach. They are relentless. Over the long term, they generally win because they stand to make a lot of money by overdeveloping land, so they are willing...
