    GT vs uga pregame thread.

I think the NC State defense was just what we needed from a coaching standpoint. What worked against Miami didn’t work as well when our opponent had more time to prep for it. Hopefully, we learned from it and Buster will have some new wrinkles Friday.

    ACC vs Big12

8-3 USCe is a good team this year despite being picked to finish 13th in conference. While the shine is now off of their “good” losses to Bama and Ole Piss, their Bama and LSU losses were for a combined total of 5 points. All but one of their conference wins have been by 3+ scores. Clemson will...

I was about to make a similar comment about student support but you put it more succinctly. Can't remember which game it was but there was one where I think there were around 10k students in attendance. That's an awesome number considering the total enrollment on campus. Edit to add: There...

    AARON MF PHILO

Yeah, it's like comparing 2-point vs. 3-point shot percentages in basketball. Many of Philo's throws are downfield shots under pressure, often in third and long, that have a higher difficulty than the short lobs King has been doing. Not to take anything away from King's outstanding stats, but...

How does David define "Strength of Record"? I assume it factors in W/L record with SoS somehow. SoS can be somewhat subjective if you start the season with it preloaded.

UNC's elite defense held BC to only their lowest highest score of the season against FBS teams.

GT’s performance has been hampered by QB injuries more than most teams this year. I still believe, as stated earlier, that many of the currently ranked teams would have additional losses if they had experienced equivalent QB injuries. I gave Miami as an example, and Root gave Texas as a...

Gonna be hard to spin the narrative that a 3-loss Ole Miss still belongs in the playoff after losing to an unranked 5-5 team, but they will try.

Can you explain your logic on this a bit more? I'm having trouble following it.

All teams have injuries, but some are more critical than others. Look at the current CFP rankings. How many playoff-level teams would be there if their starting QBs were out for several games and unable to throw for others? Miami is a prime example, but many others would have dropped another...

SI strikes again with another copy/paste job from this: GT Postgame Notes To Jackson's credit, he may have actually written the "Bad" part.

I’ll take a last-minute comeback win over a fourth-quarter collapse loss, any time. In the TFG era, we didn’t have that many games where in the fourth quarter we had a chance to either put the game away or come back to win a close one. However, of our few close losses in that era, we tended to...

Transfer Portal: Who do we need to target this offseason?

Yes, and it looks like he's been getting lots of practice in games this year.

    NC State Preview

As HK would say, we're starting to play "complementary football". Offense helps the defense and vice-versa. Hoping our special teams can participate in this too going forward. They did alright in the Miami game.

    Bowl Opponent Speculation

UF is better than their record. One of their losses was to Tenn. in OT. They played uga tough but their starting QB got knocked out of the game; after that, their offense sputtered. An injured Lagway returned for the LSU game last Saturday. He couldn’t run, but they still won by two scores.

    NC State Preview

Our defense has shown remarkable improvement starting with the VT game. Our offense’s ranking is undoubtedly affected by our poor showings against ND and VT. Also, it's not as explosive as last year, but more methodical. It’s probably a result of the trade-offs we made to limit turnovers.

This could get interesting, especially for the SEC. There's a decent chance their championship loser will have 3 losses. Do they get in the CFP over several other 2-loss teams? Or does a 2-loss team in the SEC, that may have already lost to the 3-loss team, get a higher ranking? All I know...

Something else that I had not realized before reading about it is that the playoff teams are not the teams ranked 1-12 by the committee. If one of the 5 highest-ranked conference champions is ranked slightly below 12 (likely for a G5 and possible for the ACC), they "bump" the #12 team out. And...

Yes, right now the CFP committee seems to be weighing W/L most heavily...unless you're in the BIG or SEC, in which case they credit you for "good" losses. Overrated and Underrated teams The article makes a case for SMU being underrated. If you're going to play the Strength of Schedule card...

    Bowl Opponent Speculation

If we are both 8-4, that would mean that we've beaten NC St and uga, and that Bama's wheels would have fallen off with losses to 5-5 Oklahoma and 3-6 Awbarn. In that scenario, we might actually be favored. Fun to speculate but that ain't happening.
