    Practice Day - #6

Ken wrote a story on Kallon (behind their pay wall) Georgia Tech defensive line coach Mike Pelton has had a most welcome post-practice guest lately — defensive tackle Francis Kallon. “He wants to meet after every practice,” Pelton said Wednesday, following the Yellow Jackets’ sixth...

    Practice day - #4

Was lucky to be able to watch yesterday. Don't want to reveal anything on the field, but I was really impressed by intensity by both players and coaches. After the success of last season, it'd be easy to dial it back a notch (just human nature). If you didn't know any better, you'd have thought...

    Cox Signed by Colts?

My understanding is that he's eligible to be a FA since he graduated from Ole Miss last year.

Wonder where this puts Kelly Quinlan

There's important distinction here: MBob was not telling anyone that BG was going to be fired, he hadn't made a decision until yesterday. I can tell you with 100% certainty that he did not decide to fire BG and then changed his mind (or failed to raise the money, etc).

Wonder where this puts Kelly Quinlan

I mentioned this in another thread -- there were just a handful of people close to this decision, and none of them were talking to Kelly (or any media for that matter). Let's recount what KQ had wrong about this: initial report that BG had been fired, amount of buyout, report of money being...

    CBG buyout = $2.4 million

I don't know answer, but there are a variety of possibilities -- maybe it was a compromise instead of a second year, maybe there was a handshake agreement at the time of original deal, maybe another program was interested in him at the time. Hard to say (because we don't know the facts) other...

    CBG buyout = $2.4 million

Just to be clear, CBG was given a six-year contract upon his hiring in March 2011. That's the following seasons: 11-12 12-13 13-14 14-15 15-16 16-17 In November of 2013, he was given an extension of ONE additional season -- 2017-18. The release spells out the reasons for the extension...

    CBG buyout = $2.4 million

Ken provided additional details, which are correct. Don't forget that assistant coaches also have contracts, which Ken didn't address.

    CBG buyout = $2.4 million

There are a handful of people close to this situation, and I know none of them have talked to Kelly. He's just putting this out there hoping he is right. He was wrong about the buyout number, which any valid source would have known. Think what you may of the AJC, but they have some journalistic...

    CBG buyout = $2.4 million

Having contributed to a few of these buyouts in the past, I can tell you that donors like to invest in tangibles like scholarships and buildings rather than coaching contracts. What is (partially) lost in this discussion is that CBG is well-liked by donors, so not much interest when the hat gets...

    CBG buyout = $2.4 million

Saw this posted on another board per the AJC If Gregory is fired, he will be owed 100 percent of his $1.075 million annual salary next year, 75 percent for the 2016-17 ($806,250) season and 50 percent for the 2017-18 season ($537,500), payable over the life of the contract. That’s a total of...
