It's difficult to justify ranking them in the preseason after losing a three year starter (and star) at QB at a school not known for reloading. Add to it the usual defensive deficiencies and I don't think we will or should be ranked.
I do think a 9-4 team should be ranked somewhere around...
Y'know, in watching the video, it occurred to me that not a single person was upset that Lance Austin was giving such a big cushion on the interception. Funny how that works.
It's probably worth mentioning the irony here in that when they scored with :19 left two years ago, we were able to get into FG range. Given eleven extra seconds this year, they never got close. Which offense is built for coming back again?
Yeah. I guess my point was that we ran for four bills on them and had another 100 yards passing. We were unstoppable that night if we hadn't stopped ourselves (other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play, etc.).
None of the fire in the belly or no one believed in us stuff is real. They're going to play hard regardless. Whatever. We're winning tomorrow, so it'll be a moot point in about 30 hours.
As Johnson often says, it's not what the coaches know but what they can teach the players. Even if Van Gorder has the silver bullet (he doesn't), it won't matter unless the players can learn it.
Personally, I'm thankful that creativity is frowned upon in football culture. It's almost certainly one of the reasons why we continue to be successful.
Ran a lot of midline, which doesn't require blocking the play side tackle, which would enable the linemen to get to the next level. That's at least part of it.
This whole exercise strikes me as completely insane. Almost everyone on this board will say that he doesn't expect 10+ wins a season. How is the program (as opposed to this year's team) not meeting expectations, last year notwithstanding. For the most part, the floor has been 6-6 or 7-5...
For someone who (apparently) is mistaken about so much, I was at least able to figure out that the Tech football program wasn't competing with other schools' basketball or baseball programs.
And again, your earlier point is that they contribute to other parts of the school. That was my point...
