The offense was great, but playmakers did not litter the two deep. It was very much a scheme driven thing made possible by a handful of playmakers in the most important places. I’d even say Shaq was the key piece to that whole puzzle, JT second.

It’s not impossible, but extremely difficult at the previous support level. Coach already had one hand tied behind his back, with the lack of resources, it became two.

The jury is still out on that last point. A mild boost in ranking may or may not translate to the field. Production is the ultimate measure of improved recruiting.

It is way harder to scheme away lesser talent on defense that offense. Some say Tenuta did it, but he had some darn good players to work with.
