And in short yardage, let's run quick hitting stuff from under center. I think running out of the shotgun in goal line situations is an invitation for penetration and lost yardage when the defense is gambling to make a stop.
  2. NC State Postgame

On a short throw, it HAS to be accurate. There isn't time to adjust for location, speed, etc.
  3. NC State Postgame

    Damn, I hope you're right.
  4. NC State Postgame

I wasn't watching close enough. The TV announcers (who were pretty bad themselves) mentioned it.
  5. NC State Postgame

It was sidearm, low and too far in front. Or at least that's what I saw.
  6. NC State Postgame

His success rate at making the right decision on the read option is not good. And he STARES down receivers. Gotta get better. Oh, and I want to see him lined up under center on short yardage. But that's on the OC.

It wasn't putrid, but we (he) left quite a few yards on the field. The 4th down pass late was a great example. You have to get that ball to the back, sure there is a guy in the way, but you've gotta find a way to make that play.
  8. Jahmyr Gibbs Plays Football Well

I'm not sure about that. He's incredibly fast and elusive in the open field, but there were tacklers who would have had a chance at taking him down. I'd love to have seen the play come to a routine end (TD or tackle) rather than a non-contact injury.
  9. #DUKEvsGT Postgame Discussion

That's a really odd statistic. 60 plays x 50 yards per play is 3,000 yards.

This. Alternately, meet in person for a game of Rochambeau. Post the video.
  11. Need An Understanding On QB Play

Yes, please. We aren't going to win the 1/1 physical matchups along the line consistently enough. So spread things out to create space for runners and push the defenders farther from the QB so he has fewer rushers to account for. Seems easy to me, but if it was that easy...
  12. Need An Understanding On QB Play

What I've seen is our opponents pulling everyone in tight and challenging the lanes on those short throws. They are betting their DL forces a quick throw which pretty much precludes the down the field stuff.
  13. Need An Understanding On QB Play

One of the "Sacks" called out earlier in the thread was a read option. I love option football, but it still requires the OL to block well enough for the QB to make a read and properly distribute the ball before he's tackled.
  14. Need An Understanding On QB Play

He just doesn't have enough mental bandwidth at this point to process much beyond his primary read. Pocket awareness? Situational awareness? Yeah. Probably not processing enough things fast enough to do much about those things. Most of us have been been there in one sport or another. Me, in...

I love passive aggressive message board schtick. Really. Keep it up.
  16. GT - ND postgame thread

    I think you meant OL.
  17. GT - ND postgame thread

We *might* win with Sims. He gives us a puncher's chance. We *won't* win with a game manager. We're too deficient in too many areas to win without a QB making some plays.
  18. GT - ND postgame thread

I'm sure I could come up with examples of "bad play calling" if I thought about it long enough. But most people look at the success/failure of a play and judge it by that metric, as opposed to looking at whether the risk/reward for the called play was reasonable. That's not realistic. You call...
  19. GT - ND postgame thread

The question is whether you want to win or whether you want to win big. In today's game, to win big, you absolutely need the Star QB, not the game manager. That's generally the difference between UGA and the likes of Clemson, Alabama, and LSU. Godsey wasn't a game manager. He read the defense...
  20. GT - ND postgame thread

Our pass blocking isn't great, and Sims has poor awareness of the rush. That adds up to sack city if he's asked to hold the ball trying to make deep throws.
