Both the offense and defense are going to play a 3rd and 10 and 2nd and 22 very differently. Therefore it is not as simple as the probably to get 10 yards on any given play. I don't know the numbers but would argue it is much easier to get 10 plus yards on a second and 22 than it is on the 3rd...
Finally something I agree with you on. 95% of the time you will accept a second and 10 holding or penalty call. The other 5% is when you're trying to save timeouts and time on the clock at the end of a game.
If the hit a 15 yard play on 2nd and 22.5 you are not in the same situation as declining the penalty. It would now be 3rd and 7 or 8 and you would have lost about 10 seconds at least on the clock and minus a timeout. At that point time was a critical factor so saving as much as possible was...
That chart is to convert on one play not to convert overall. If it was overall then the percentage to convert at second and 10 should be higher than 3rd and 10. So yes it's less likely to convert it first down from second and 20 plus than it is from 3rd and 10 on one play but not necessarily...
They were at the 25 so it would have been half the distance to the goal or on the 12.5 (basically 13 yard line when the center shifts the ball forward as most do). I still don't think it was worth losing the extra play clock time and time out with the added risk of giving them another play to...
F playing for just a bowl game. We can still win the ACC and make it to the playoffs! Yes this was a terrible game but that doesn't mean we can't turn it around. We are only 3 games in and 2-1 which is about where most people saw us with the FSU and Cause games swapped.
There was absolutely no guarantee to get the ball back if they accepted it. They could have easily gotten 10 to 15 yards on the 2nd down play and then it would have been back to the same or worst 3rd down try with more time off the clock
I think it was the right call in the moment. By declining you just had to make one more stop. Take the penalty and they have two more shots and they would have tons of field to play with on the first one. Obviously looking back it seems dumb but I think most coaches would have made the same call
Spiking the ball is absolutely a penalty but the refs were horrendous this game. It wasn't clearly one sided like last week but they were just plain terrible!
We might be paying him but there is also highly possible we are not paying him much if anything. First, it could be that he just loves being with the program so he is doing it on his own. In addition, this is a jointly beneficial marketing opportunity so he could be doing it to just grow his...
Anyone notice how worked up Key got when asked about the refs at his Tuesday presser? Sounds like he didn't agree with the holding calls either by saying he will never not teach his players to finish blocks.
Tech took it down cause the video started in the middle of Key talking so they had to repost it.
I will never understand how a technology school can't seem to do a simple YouTube video
That's the coaches poll not the AP poll. It looks like the AP is still not out as I type this.
On another note about the coaches poll, 50 teams received votes and FSU was not one of them! That has to be the largest drop between consecutive single season polls in the history of the college football!
