I think we all would agree that Bobby Dodd is a cool and unique stadium. But does it hold us back in some ways for the next 30+ years, especially if we were to attempt to develop alternative revenue streams?
Old Yankee Stadium was cool and unique but they went and built a new one with modern...
We could debate the merits of a retractable roof all day. The only reason I mentioned it is that it would open the door for exponentially more events. Just as one example, if Avant South turns into something of a SXSW in Atlanta, a closed roof Dodd would be the epicenter.
As TooTall mentions...
Nope, but I know that there are many world class venues that have them, and I'm guessing that the economics and/or economic support from state or local governments supported them.
But putting aside the specifics, having a world-class facility that, along with the young population on Tech's...
It's odd to me that so much $$$ goes into on campus facilities used 6-8 times a year. One of our advantages over every other school in the country is location. If we had a world-class, right-sized facility that--beyond football--could host 15 or 20 additional events (concerts, etc), the...
I can only dream that we could go back to the amateur model and just have a separate prep development league for kids that want to get paid cash instead of getting paid a scholarship
It would appear from the numbers that they do. But maybe it's driven more by after-effects of the basketball natty and big money donors (e.g., a $40M donation from an anonymous former athlete in 2022, a $25M donation from Breeden in 2023). Thankfully we have had our share of generous wealthy...
Regarding UVA, alums absolutely love the school and think back really fondly on their time in Charlottesville. The school does a next level job of connecting with alums and wining/dining them when they come back for visits. GT is doing this better but certainly could learn some things from...
If we can knock off FSU in Dublin, we could possibly get to 4-0 heading to Louisville. We would be squarely in the national conversation for the first time in a long time.
I think if every conference had a path to the playoffs, including the G5, you would find a lot more parity develop. The non-SEC/B1G school closer to home becomes more attractive if that team has a chance to make the playoffs. I'm under no illusion that this would happen.
I'm saying that the G5 currently is irrelevant to the FBS national championship. That's half of the teams that effectively start the season without any relevancy to anyone other than their alums. Just like Mach Madness, those teams become more interesting if they have a path to a championship...
We used to be told that in the regular season, every game is a playoff game. Every game matters. This simply isn't true, as this season's selection process showed us. If we were to have a system where conference championships are the path to the playoff, almost every regular season game...
I don't know what the future holds. But I do know that Tech is growing and that live non-sports entertainment is growing. I'm wondering if there is a long-term model for a state of the art entertainment facility that would work for football, soccer, and live music that would greatly expand the...
