For those asking about Chris Griffin

Eric, thanks for the update. I was another one asking ;) 6'5" 290 ain't to bad for a RS freshman. Add that to his solid technique, he gonna be a good 'un!

    Quaterback Development

Speculation without foundation. If you think kids in NC don't get after it, you've never seen a NC 3A or 4A game.

Those numbers were for 1st yr as a starter. Perhaps a better comparison would be VL 1st year numbers versus JNs numbers as a 1st year player. JN 2007 53 carries for 339 yards 0 TDs 5 of 13 passing 93 yards 1 td 2 ints VL 2012 96 carries for 544 yards 9 TDs 27 of 56 passing 596 yards 4 TDs 3...

Interesting comments on CPJ's base offense

Yep it dang sure does. Teams with superior talent can win games when they don't play to their abilities. Tech has to play at 100% to do that. We've seen it time and again when Tech plays clean and with passion they can play with anybody. When they don't we know the outcome.

Would we really be that bad

Then you have Frank Beamer who was 42-23-2 at Murray State the followed Boll Dooley at VT. But did you know that Beamer was 24-40-1 in his first six years there? And that was after Dooley went 9-2-1 his last year. If Beamer had done that is the 2000s he'd never made it past year 4 most likely.

Interesting comments on CPJ's base offense

Rodney, I know. That's why I said that I don't always agree with his play calling. IMO though I'd rather be in the game with a chance to win it rather being blown out.

Interesting comments on CPJ's base offense

Do any of you really think CPJ wouldn't run anything in his playbook if he knew the plays would be executed properly? A head coach knows his players better than anybody and knows what they can handle and what they can't. CPJ's not about to keep the playbook closed if he thought for one minute it...

Interesting comments on CPJ's base offense

It's amazing how quick revisionist history comes to pass, isn't it? ;)

    Program has bigger problems

Just want to throw a question out there. As a "sidewalk" fan of better than 40 years and a season ticket holder for better than 25 years I have always felt welcomed and appreciate by other Tech supporters, both alums and other "sidewalk" fans. Is the a perception or an attitude that folks like...

    Program has bigger problems

However, this isn't just a coach problem. The academic restrictions, alumni support, lack of money, lack of marketing, support staff, and many other issues are going to be a problem for any new coach that we hire. CPJ is figuring this stuff out a little more every year. He has done a good job...

Young players key on offense next season

Thanks, that's good news on Deon. He showed me that he can be an very important cog in this offense and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in '14. As to the O line that was my feeling as well, it's also looks like, based upon the projected starter, the O line will be bigger as well in '14.

Eric any news on Deon Hill's medical issues? Do you feel the is a talent upgrade on the O line?

    Program has bigger problems

Funny I thought this thread was about issues with the Hill and other academics issues affecting the football program. I don't recall seeing anything relative to alum involvement. Oh yes and then someone brought up Stanford.

I absolutely agree! VL has to decide where he wants to be as a QB!

    Quaterback Development

I don't disagree JN was better in short yardage but remember he was built like a LB and VL is more like a greyhound. As to poise, remember the spring game CPJ's 1st year? How many times did JN lay it on the ground? :)

    Already looking to next year

To add one more thing about the Navy QBs, I don't recall a fr or soph ever being the starting QB for Navy since CPJ went there and subsequent to his leaving.

    Quaterback Development

Let me say first that I loved JN as a Tech Qb and have nothing but admiration for his and what he accomplished at Tech. but when you compare JN's numers to VL's number in their first year as the starting QB the number show that VL performed better. JN 2008 172 carries for 693 yards and 7 TDs...

    Program has bigger problems

Uh that's a campus building not a football facilities building, unless I miss something in the article. And, truly, Knight's involvement is irrelevant to the issue at hand, is it not?

    Quaterback Development

Actually, Mack, Hawaii's offense when CPJ was there was run heavy. Passing per season for his time there 2052 yards versus 3028 rushing for a 60/40 split toward the rush offense. There were years where the numbers leaned toward more passing but the overall numbers favor his run game. We still...
