  1. As Bad as It Was

Well, they seem to play some defense. It appears sometimes that we put 11 guys out on defense because the rules say we have to. It does not seem reasonable to me that of 85 scholarships available we cannot find 11 who can play defense, and have not for years. Maybe my friend the GT grad was...
  2. As Bad as It Was

I confess that after the first quarter when i thought it obvious we could not score enough points to win this game -- how often does one get 68, anyway? -- I turned it off in favor of grocery shopping. Just utterly depressing, but pricing a pound of coffee is easier than watching the Little Big...

On a charm offensive, I see.
  4. Notre Dame to Play 2 Johnson Tree Spread option teams back-to-back

I feel a little bit like Lewis Carroll here -- first the hanging, then the trial -- and frankly Johnson doesn't have to defend his record at GT to anybody. He deserves some jabs about being so sensitive -- when it happens it is, as coaches like to say, an unforced error -- but the field speaks...
  5. Brad Stewart

Good lord. Two years later and there is another Brad Stewart thread chewing up the ozone.

...we once went through a period that happens occasionally, and the disciplines we hired were rare and a hiring war ensued. For everybody else wanting to do it right. My boss got peeved when I accused him of making us non-combatants. The hirings in that period turned out as you might expect.

The first rule I had in hiring was simple, and everything played off that equation. I was good at what I did, and I was looking to hire somebody who would be better. We could get into details after that first evaluation.
  8. Paul Johnson gives hopeful injury updates on P.J. Davis, Dedrick Mills

Well, perhaps you are right. But there is no line in the record book or memories that reflect "would have won if played later." I think by that reasoning Tech might have been unbeaen going into the ACC championship game in 2014. Alas, writ down is that UNC lost to Georgia.

is this the team that lost to that SEC powerhouse, Georgia?

My guess is that Johnson is doing what he always said he would do to win: pass if the situation warranted it. Duke obviously was blindsided by the passing, though again, it is entirely consistent with what I have always read about Johnson. If he has to pass to win, then look out.
  11. Notre Dame to Play 2 Johnson Tree Spread option teams back-to-back

Don't you guess that given the unwarranted and unexpected criticism of the offense and its difficulty in latching on to the imagination of fans, GT will not opt to go that way again? They will convince themselves they can recruit in Top 10 and play chuck and duck with the best of them. And then...

LSU would not dismiss David Berkowitz if he had great hands and ran a 4.3 40 and promised not to do it again. On campus.
  13. First half Dook defense

Yes, and look at Oregon: about to fire another coach for not scoring enough. When you look at some of the records being broken today, it is stark. Not only are they being broken -- Georgia Tech is a great example -- but shattered, sometimes two and three times previous career or season records...

To you these things are criminal. To some coaches they are an opportunity.
  15. First half Dook defense

Rested defenses always play better. But the game's offenses have changed so dramatically that defenses now have to be better conditioned and deeper on the bench ... and love to play at the pace of the game. And while I get the complaints about our defense, and pretty sure Roof gets them too, the...

Is that good or bad? I mean, do you get credit per tweet or tweeter? You guys live in another universe fromme.

Well, like I said. You get down around Ty Ty, Georgia and spit at or on somebody then assault is not even in the picture. It would be to the finish, all out war, and they wouldn't care if you were Queen Mary.

Two things just jumped off the page at me reading these links. One is the attention to such minute detail as opposing D backs warming up before the game. Now, tell the truth: how many of us have ever, ever, counted drop steps of the other guy's defensive backs ... warming up? Remarkable, and...

Very well done and a very enjoyable read, and though I don't know the personalities it seemed fair to me. Shoot, he can be *****ly. We just had a thread on his treatment of the AJC reporter. I understand why a Chapel Hill writer might think UNC this week is make or break for Johnson and his new...
