Yeah, the fan excitement and media attention will die down fairly quickly over a splash contract. In the meantime, we need to dig out of the financial hole instead of making it deeper. If you instead look at our situation strategically and recognize that AD Batt was hired at least partly if...
To add, most salaried job contracts mitigate risk via balancing base salary vs. incentive comp. The extreme case would be some sales jobs that are 100% commission. If the hiring side wants to say you will be terminated for cause if you don't perform (and thus invalidating the remainder of the...
Assuming we've closed the deal with Key, the ESPN article linked earlier has I think a reasonably plausible explanation of how we got to where we are. They said we (ADBatt) were not willing to offer enough guaranteed $$, which makes sense in light of our financial state and coming on the heels...
Possibly true. But if you carefully parse his statements, he's said nothing we wouldn't expect any coach to say, regardless of his candidate situation.
"I'm the head football coach at Tulane." Duh
"I'm extremely proud to be the coach at Tulane." Ok, duh again.
"We're looking forward to the...
I had a similar thought today. We (the AA and the Hill) should absolutely be leveraging all our elite academic capabilities to help us excel in sports.
A lot of posters have commented that they would be satisfied with more than one of the choices. So perhaps we won't be as divided a fanbase as we sometimes are.
I was thinking more along the lines of if we play Moneyball in recruiting (and thus overachieve on the field), what level of performance is reasonably achievable from an SP+ standpoint? The fact that only 2 teams that had middle-to-slightly-above-average recruiting managed to break through 20...
If you draw a straight line between, say, Alabama and UTEP, you can get an idea of where the "main sequence" teams lie. This would be those teams whose performance reflects their recruiting, with a normal correlation. If you play Moneyball, you expect to be to the right of this line, but...
The cognitive dissonance with the hacking theory is thinking that we have a group of posters who would take the poll results to the AD and say, "Look we have a poll that shows Key in second place! This shows that you should hire him!"
I was there, in the UGA student section (don't ask). It happened just as you describe. After the mutt score, I said to the group around me "We did that on purpose." Too bad we were not able to capitalize.
We need multiple plans.
Plan A: The obvious – limit possessions, D plays them like UNC only better. Take risks. Hold. Onside kicks (assumes we score, so may not work)
Plan B: For when Plan A doesn’t work (likely sometime in Q1). Not sure what plan B is, but needs to be different than A.
Plan...
Good question. I can't find the midterm dates on the Fall academic calendar, but the interval between the Duke and Virginia games would have included the midpoint of the semester. So a high likelihood that the team did indeed have midterms during the "ten days to prepare" period.
Not that we...
@slugboy offered the best response to the "what if" line of thinking:
To simply assume that Downs' drop was the difference in winning or losing is to ignore how the rest of the game went. Realistically, we still had a fair chance of winning the game (perhaps in OT) had Downs scored. We took...
This. Considering the available personnel and the gyrations in available QBs we've had to react to, I thought last night's game plan was our best showing in terms of adapting to strengths and weaknesses.
Just to confirm that they have no excuses for their record this year - another view of their recruiting is that their team talent composite ranking is 4th behind only Bama, UGA, and Ohio State. Last year prior to landing the #1 class, they still ranked 8th.
This echoes my sentiment exactly, particularly with respect to the other board choices out there should one feel that another level of moderation suits their tastes better. And speaking of respect, it's disappointing that, given the other choices, some posters still chose to come on this board...
