It's not so much that GT wasn't burdened by dead money back then, but the fact that the GTAA had the mindset of paying assistants at the very highest level in football including the factories that strikes me as so at odds with our concept of being one of the "poorer" schools in P5. Even 15-20...
It’s a “neutral” site game in a city where GT fans are outnumbered roughly 4:1 by uga fans, add in the fact that Bama has more local fans than us as well.
Supply is limited with 50% allocation to each team in a stadium with less capacity than their respective home stadiums that routinely sell...
I had no idea. We were paying Patenaude and Thacker salaries at the level of P5 assistants 15-20 years ago. No wonder Key asked for more $$ for assistants.
Edit to add: How in the world did GT justify paying assistants among the largest salaries in football back in the 1999-2007 time frame...
A bit of a tangent here but we are used to assuming G5 teams to be auto-wins, however, even CPJ’s teams struggled and/or lost against them at times. The best G5 teams will usually be ranked by season’s end and are capable of beating all but the upper-tier (ranked) P5 teams now. They get 85...
Nope. "The Bowling Green Falcons football program is the intercollegiate football team of Bowling Green State University. The team is a member of the NCAA, playing at the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, formerly Division I-A, level; BGSU football competes within the Mid-American Conference...
Surprising - not so much by how much top coordinator salaries have escalated since, because after all it's been 25 years, but more so by the fact that GT was actually paying top dollar for a coach.
Yes. Objective resume-based ranking systems like Colley's have Bowling Green ahead of WF. We still shouldn't have lost to BG (a rent-a-win), but fans were comparing the loss to our losses to much lesser teams. BG is FBS and was no pushover this year. By the way, I didn't see Virginia on the...
To your point, I suspect TV revenue is 80-90% of the business case for most bowls, along with some ticket revenue guarantees from the conferences. Actual attendance above the guaranteed sales is just gravy. I could be wrong - perhaps someone more familiar with bowl finances can comment.
You guys probably won’t believe this, but a mutt friend of mine was able to get his hands on a secretly recorded meeting of the uga Athletic Association executive board, held shortly after the close of Kirby’s first season. He shared this interesting excerpt from the transcript. The...
If he is hired in any capacity at uga, especially at some vague "analyst" job, it just adds credence to my theory that he was a uga plant (Manchurian Candidate) all along.
Again, and I realize I'm belaboring a point here, it's shortchanging GT to give equal or greater weight to the coach's poor decision to run the ball, as far as the game's outcome is concerned. To say that the opportunity should never have existed for us is almost like saying egregiously bad...
Yeah, there are some examples of where the voting process is bonkers. I counted 5 UNC players selected - on defense! Give me a break. UNC's defense is actually one of only two ACC teams worse than us in DFEI.
Personally, I love the beaches in that area, although they've been discovered and have become too crowded now. Once you get north of hwy 98, there really isn't much of anything there. It's just an extension of L.A. (Lower Alabama) and very rural.
Pure speculation to answer that question, but I won't argue that Key would have a better W-L record than Deion. I suspect many posters are looking at the results vs. the hype. By that metric, I believe Key comes out on top.
