  1. Athlete majors (spin-off thread)

That is funny as hell. Seriously funny.
  2. Just something interesting I noticed watching an old Navy Video.

You are right. I actually looked something up and a fellow named Bob Wagner was the head coach and Jones was later. Here's my question: since legend has it that Johnson developed his spread option under Erk Russell at GSU, do you know if that passing he did at Hawaii was Wagner's offense, or his...
  3. Just something interesting I noticed watching an old Navy Video.

Yes, he did. All a function of the head ball coach's philosophy, and Junes Jones said chuck it. A lot.
  4. Athlete majors (spin-off thread)

Son #2 is a university professor. Nine years of college, ph.d. Loves what he does, can't imagine not teaching, researching or writing. He and spouse started out with big student loans, too, at high interest rates, meaning for the first few years they paid them off and contributed little to the...
  5. Just something interesting I noticed watching an old Navy Video.

Is that not just the basic "trips" formation Johnson has used at Tech. Remember FSU early on, a wild scoring contest that resulted in Tech lining up trips most of the game.
  6. Athlete majors (spin-off thread)

I believe that in this case the issue was that there was very little if any studying being done in "African studies". Few classes and papers done for the players. I can be wrong because my stomach turned after a bit and I quit on UNC.
  7. Is it mostly us or them?

That much is true. We would of course then move on to the "Why can't we run the ball?" argument. A Peter Sellers movie, "I'm All Right, Jack" had Stanley Windrush fired by the plant owner for doing a union job though not a member in an effort placate his union steward . Whereupon the steward...
  8. Is it mostly us or them?

This has been argued so many times I now put claims we would do better with another offense in the alternate facts category,: there just ain't no such thing and it's not worth arguing.
  9. Is it mostly us or them?

So after 10 years they're changing the rules on us?
  10. Is it mostly us or them?

As a high schooler I had two years experience attempting cut blocks. I always threw it too early. The result was that my target stepped over me and put his high beams on the runner. Contrary to our critics, you don't throw the block at the knees -- or I wasn't taught that -- but at the thigh...
  11. TOUGHEST OPPONENT RECORDS FOR 2018 - GT in top 3 of ACC

Not sure of the point except team strength, but one cannot simply declare a rivalry game. Rivalries are earned the old fashion way: blood, sweat and tears. And hard feelings. And ...
  12. Is it mostly us or them?

I think ACC teams have gotten better at defending us, but after a decade they should. But it is easier to defend a scheme the other guy for whatever reason isn't running all that well, and last season we were not world beaters with the pitch off the option. It's not a matter of placing blame...
  13. Is it mostly us or them?

I always look forward to Johnson standing on one sideline and Foster kneeling on the other, their brainwaves in a clash of the Titans about midfield.
  14. Is it mostly us or them?

Good questions, all. Seems fair to conclude that yes, teams are defending us better, and after 10 seasons and maybe half a dozen games against the offense, that's to be expected. What seems to have changed is that while our defense seems predictably bad, in the past we could just outscore the...
  15. The Gap... Johnson on 2017 and the Clemson/UGA gap

Most of us probably -- you learn there are no absolutes on a message board, even what I just said -- know that coaching salaries are obscene, even on the low end. (Position coaches contribute more than tenured professors?) But look at it this way (and fair's fair, I contribute nothing at all to...
  16. Coach Johnson expressed interest in Tennessee's vacancy in November

Okay. I get your point. Thanks.
  17. Coach Johnson expressed interest in Tennessee's vacancy in November

Don't mean to be snarky, really, but whose point did you just make?
  18. Coach Johnson expressed interest in Tennessee's vacancy in November

Might want to check out Clemson's academic standings.
  19. Coach Johnson expressed interest in Tennessee's vacancy in November

I'll tell you something else stated over and over again: as long as GT is an engineering school with those pesky technical and engineering and physics and calculus courses ... you ain't gonna haul in Top Five classes. Or Top 25 classes. You could put in a Flying Circus as the offense. Run the...
