  1. August 12th Fan day who's all going?

I am going to drive three hours to be there. Should be fun.
  2. We're the most liked school in the ACC

A matter of perspective I suppose. I personally do not care for Illinois, California, or New York. If the state "sucks" why is Illinois on the verge of bankruptcy and Mississippi which is far poorer is not?
  3. We're the most liked school in the ACC

All this about Mississippi is true but some of the nicest, hardest working people I have ever known came from the Magnolia State. Even Dodd for all his talk was candid in saying that during his time Mississippi put out some of the best talent in the country. He said (paraphrasing here) "I...
  4. Best Secondary in Georgia Tech history?

I thought "quarters" was all the rage a couple of years ago when Ohio State was doing it. What changed? Why do ya'll dislike it so much or why does Roof like it so much? Just curious.
  5. QB battle

Was it von Clausewitz or Frederick the Great that was the first defensive coordinator? "He that defends everything, defends nothing"
  6. QB battle

It generally is in modern football. I would offer a caveat. When your team is down a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter and you are facing a triple option offense. Well, let's just say it doesn't look too good. Also, if your quarterback is cooling his heels watching that option...
  7. We're the most liked school in the ACC

What Old Jacket Fan said. Also, it really stuck in Coach Vaught's craw that Tech habitually during the 1950s would get a player out of Mississippi that they wanted badly. The Morris brothers being prime examples among others. Parents that might have been hesitant about letting their boys go...
  8. We're the most liked school in the ACC

Sad but maybe its for the best. They go their way and we went ours.
  9. We're the most liked school in the ACC

There was a famous double hitter at Grant Field that involved Tech and Ole Miss (though they were playing two other teams) at any rate the SEC Commissioner at the press conference with all four coaches at the table came out and asked Dodd to play Ole Miss in Oxford. Dodd flat out said no...
  10. We're the most liked school in the ACC

That seems about right. Seems like Jimy Lincoln had a huge game against them one year but that may have been at Tech. Dez White similarly had a monster game against Virginia but that too was at Grant Field. For the longest time they were in our heads at their place.
  11. We're the most liked school in the ACC

Well, sometime in the 1970s Bear Bryant took it upon himself to sponsor Tech to get back in the SEC. In his biography, he said it was about not wanting to go to his grave with that separation between himself and Coach Dodd. Anyway, with the assistance of whoever the athletic director was of...
  12. We're the most liked school in the ACC

True Dat! You know, now that you put it that way, I kind of feel sorry for them...Nah
  13. We're the most liked school in the ACC

I don't know about Michigan and Virginia Tech fans but from years of going to Florida games with a friend I can tell you that those Gators just can't stand UGA. One of those things. The younger generation generally detests FSU more but the older ones harbor pretty intense feelings about UGA...
  14. SEC East Georgie

Well, its sort of like how the old Big 8 used to be derided as "Oklahoma and the 7 Dwarves" In this case, UGA gets top billing because they are returning more starters and a starting quarterback while the Gators and Tennessee are basically starting over although Gator fans insist that with the...
  15. Best Secondary in Georgia Tech history?

Balkcom was an underappreciated enforcer at strong safety. Swilling was an All American and played like one until that ankle injury he suffered against Clemson. Willie Clay wasn't called "Big Play" for nothing. Curley Day, Bellamy, Holmes, and Peoples all had their moments. Just really...
  16. The Pros and Cons for 2017

I like playing anybody after they have played Miami. I just don't like having to play Miami too. Playing them AFTER they have had their annual gang rumble with FSU should help.
  17. The Pros and Cons for 2017

You are probably right but we will never know. Like Flea said it was a year like no other. The funny thing about it was that we actually moved the ball and played pretty good in games but we could not catch a break, well except for the immortal "Kick Six" that is. There were a couple of games...
  18. The Pros and Cons for 2017

In addressing the original poster's question: The pros are at FSU and Clemson, the cons are at Miami. Is that what you mean?
  19. We're the most liked school in the ACC

Well, UNC hates Duke and NC State, South Carolina hates Clemson, UGA hates Tech, Everybody hates Miami, Sigh... I kind of wish we were hated. We are just so like able. Kind of like Vanderbilt in the SEC or Northwestern in Big 10. Back in Dodd's day, we were roundly hated by everybody...
  20. The Pros and Cons for 2017

OK, I will play devil's advocate on this. Tennessee has talent coming out of their ears. Trust me. Last year they got hit hard by injuries so we will see. Thank God we are playing them this year and not last year at the beginning of the year. They ran Virginia Tech right out of the stadium...
