Amazing night. Priceless performance and call by Wiley on the 4th Burress HR of the night. Great close to perfects GT game. 1 BB & 1 HBP through 8.0. 10 runs. No errors (or reality errors) with a lot of good defensive plays. Just wonderful.

No game notes yet but here are the relevant meta stats. We are predicted to win 11-5. Never right, but it's interesting.

Agree. To make the NCAAs, I think we need a winning ACC record and an RPI under 45 (40 would be better). If we are like 20-10 ACC* of course the RPI will be good enough. But if we are like 16-14 and have an RPI of 50, I don't think we make it. That's where the weak SoS we have hurts; it's...

2/25 WBB hosts Wake Forest in final home game

Oh well, the softball team won two today.

Oh well, I leave chat and the wheels fall off. Fact. Just win the next one. While 2 BB & 2 HBP is ok, 11 hits isn't great at all. But even with the forgiving scoring, our pitchers only gave up 6 earned runs. The other 5 (more by some accounts here) were unearned. That's bad baseball...

Thanks for the detail on the Latin players, I didn't know most went to Dominican summer league. Since they are signed at 16 and go to MLB when their talent allows, I'd put them more in the HS category than college where you have to wait to 21 / 3 years. Make sense? And thanks for doing this.

    2024 ACC Baseball

Eeehhh, way too early to say but SEC (78.0%) has a slightly better winning percentage than ACC (77.5%). (RPI only shown since I couldn't take it out. Our RPI is 50 which is higher than I thought it would be. But still meaningless.)

    2024 ACC Baseball

There are 5 undefeated ACC teams still. UVa's is impressive given last two games played. L"Ville is the only real surprise as noted above (I liked the town when I was visiting once.) I'm a bit surprised NC State has lost two (lost @ Hawaii last night) as well as Miami (lost to Long Island...

I like your approach with fWAR (I couldn't start to calculate it for college baseball). To answer the question about definition, how robust is the 25 year old point? What would be the results for 23 or 21? (I know what I expect the answer to be but the facts get in the way of my opinion...

Cases in point: Yesterday Stony Brook beats @LSU 5-2. LSU not getting early return on $M in NIL. And @Clempy loses 1-18 to Kennesaw State. Love it. Of course we have concerns about our team, but we need to smell the roses while they are blooming since we don't know what is going to happen...

I like their mascot / logo. I had to stop watching in the second. Checked score at a dinner party and was very surprised that we were down going into the 7th. But damnit, we came back and won. Really glad we won. Today I hope the game is as uninteresting as it should be. Just hope I can...

While our series shouldn't be interesting, this series will be and I will check in on it some. ? Georgia State on Tuesday night *shouldn't* be that hard. A lot harder than Cornell and a lot easier than uGag. Season really starts with uGag, till then we have to win every game the guys get...

Now this is the 15 year record I would expect with our talent: Don't make NCAA 2 times Lose in other people regionals 6 times Lose in own regional once Advance past regionals 6 times, 3 of which went to CWS. Same coach, in first 15 years.

Welcome back! Nothing has changed from last year (y) You have your right to your MLB centric opinion, in college the best teams use the bunt for a wide variety of reasons we went through as nauseum last year. I just wish we had a Chandler Simpson since he made the case weekly on bunting for hits.

No problem with your points but I wasn't thinking or talking about winning the CWS, just advancing out of regionals (top 16) or even more regularly making the NCAAs (~top 45). Winning the CWS or WS takes being very good and somewhat lucky. In the last 15 years (not counting 2020 COVID year)...

Series became less interesting. I thought Hall said in opening day post game that Busse was fine and was just a bad start and said or implied Busse would start this week. Oh well. Busse is a reliever and closer. That's how he was used in the Cape Cod league over the summer 0 ERA in 3.2 IP as...

@THWG spoke the truth. We seem to make most games too interesting. So these games should be boring. I'd like more boring games. It'll be interesting to see starters, I expect Busse, Finateri, Patel like last week since Hall sort of said that in an interview. Hope Busse does better than any...

Here's my problem with the concept of the "sac" bunt. It's only a sac if it doesn't work out and an out is made with runners advancing. So the player is trying to bunt successfully in all cases I would think. I haven't seen a player just stand at home plate waiting to be tagged. (Like...

I don't like Hall's record in getting to and performing in post-season. over the last 15 years relative to the ranked talent we have coming in. Sure he knows what he is doing more than me or others but he doesn't get the results for the talent. Sure he's the winningest coach around since he is...
