    I agree entirely that RPI modifications are in order, like dropping the top and bottom 5% of the games. There have been plenty of proposals that make sense. IMHO there is NO single metric which can accurately compare how a college team ranks against another team at the end of the season...

    Good pitching generally beats good hitting. A key to me will be our pitch discipline and run up the pitch count even if we don't get on base. Will pay dividends later in the game and get the starter out sooner. And an early mound visit to check for sticky substances may be in order if too...

    No surprise here. Clemson coach winning 74% of games with tough SoS. We have upside on our coaching future! I like getting the games played today and early. Will reduce the Clempy home field advantage.

    2024 Schedule Difficulty - Projections per CFN

    What is ironic is in baseball we schedule way too easy OOC games and get screwed by RPI. Football schedule too hard OOC games and possibly get screwed by not winning 6.

    @Clemson Baseball

    I expect one win and hope for 3. Given we scored 1 ER Friday against Miami in 9.0 innings and then 15 ER Sunday in 6.0 innings, there is no way (for me at least) to know what is going to happen. Again as I started in the OP, we are trending up and they are trending down. But trends are the...

    @Clemson Baseball

    OK, who hasn't been more hopeful lately about our team? We are trending in the right direct. Clempy is 6-4 in their last 10. After going 28-5 to start. Their high RPI is due to smarter scheduling than ours with a 19 OOC SoS. Here's how they've done last 3 ACC series (going back): 2-1 @...

    Interesting Contrast in GT Pitching 2023 vs 2024

    Depends partly on how well Niese can draw a walk or bunt for a hit and who's up next.. I think part of the confusion with scenarios is that it's not just one play but a series of plays till there are three outs.

    Interesting Contrast in GT Pitching 2023 vs 2024

    You're fine in your writing I think. You and leatherneck were talking past each other with different starting assumptions I think. But I'm not going to go back and analyze it. May just be me but with no outs and a man on first, I'm hoping for us to get a walk rather than the ball in play DP...

    Interesting Contrast in GT Pitching 2023 vs 2024

    After a good ERA weekend versus Miami, I'm happy we are up to 7th in ERA in ACC only games. Beats 13th last year.

    I'm starting to hate FSU fans.

    LoL, do I sense sarcasm? Don't confuse me with someone who cares about other "college" football teams staffed by mercenaries. It's all good, college baseball is interesting and the Giro starts this weekend.

    What did Herbstreet do other than have helmets up guessing who would play in what game?

    Miami Baseball

    Not controversial. I did have the (I kid sort of) in there. What you point out I agree with, pitching is what wins the NCAAs and tournaments usually. We've seen that way too much.

    Miami Baseball

    Ooops losing 7 of the 9. Us only winning 2. Last night it was one versus Clempy and one versus FSU. How we get swept at home by a lower RPI Duke is beyond me. This morning it's we still win only two but 1 @ Clempy and 1 versus Duke (0 versus @FSU). That is more realistic. And our predicted...

    2024 Season

    Clempy is SEC wanna be. Wonder how they have the best ERA in the ACC?
  15. GTNavyNuke

    Miami Baseball

    So since pitching is so important in tournament play and the SEC is better, are you are arguing that the SEC is better than the rankings below and thus the rankings are biased for the ACC? (I kid sort of.) Or that the rankings are based on any one game of three game series and not an extended...

    Miami Baseball

    Here's a positive spin on our RPI and why we'll most likely end up above our current 53. Since our remaining weekend series opponents have such high RPI and we get 75% of their or their opponents RPI, well get a big bump from the weak teams we played to start the year as these last three series...

    Interesting Contrast in GT Pitching 2023 vs 2024

    Also need to consider that ERA is relative. ERA is up across D1 baseball this year. Last year our ERA was 13th of 14 ACC only ERA. This year it's 9 of 14 ACC only going into this weekend and it got better this weekend.

    BLUF: *** Kicking. Well played game with no errors by us. Oh yeah, we scored a few more than they did. How is we score 15 earned in 6.0 on Sunday and 1 in 9.0 on Friday? I know pitching, pitching pitching. Plus our pitching was GREAT. All McKee's, BBs and HBP were in the first...

    One earned run for us is an outlier. Well pitched by Finateri and good defense. Finateri has pitched very well last two, last night was slightly longest outing by innings. No walks. Definitely our Friday night starter with almost twice the inning of anyone else. Hope he stays for next year...

    Finateri, Jones & McKee. Hoping for a quicker hook this week before a starter gives up 5 or 6. A team which gives up 12 runs *shouldn't* win. Our batting, defense and SB are better. Pitching they have an edge especially considering SoS. Wish Wiley were back.
