Explain the Hewitt hate to me

No one said he did. He made it to the NCAAT with Cremins' remnants in his first year. The point is that most didn't expect that to be a tournament team. As Yljacket mentions most of the fans were excited to have someone new who seemed to have brought some energy back to the program. The next...

    A realistic view

Compared to the last staff Hewitt was certainly a much better recruiter. He got some real top talent (Bosh, Crittenton, Young, Shumpert, Favors) but had trouble filling out a roster with skilled players. If you rate recruiting ability 1-10, Cremins is probably a 9 and Hewitt a 7? Something like...

Exactly. After 2005 Hewitt didn't feel the need to have experienced assistants. He felt it was his obligation to hire young guys and give them the opportunity that was given to him. This is not my opinion, by the way, he said this many times in public. Unlike the other thread about the...

Explain the Hewitt hate to me

Hewitt's initial success (taking the underachieving Cremins leftovers to the NCAAT then the great recruiting class leading to the very good 2004 and 2005 teams) was followed up by a distinct change in his attitude toward the press and the public. He became intolerant of criticism and started...

    A realistic view

That isn't the minimum. That's very close to Hewitt's record (NCAAT 5 out of 11 years). GT went to the NCAAT 10 out of 12 during the Cremins glory years, including 9 in a row. I'm not sure what a minimum potential is but unless Cremins is an unattainable level of coach I would set it there...

Amen to the retread comment. Why is Miller considered in a different category to Drew? They have both been head coaches for 5 years with Drew having better results in a worse conference. They don't seem like they are in different categories.

GT was 1-27 in the ACC when Cremins was hired. I don't think anyone cared about that at that time. It is more accurate to say that Cremins was hired and no one noticed. Anyone who was there feel free to correct me. Because of Cremins the expectations are different now.

I understand your primary point and apologize for the semi-threadjack. However, I think GT fans sell the job short rather than the other way around. Cremins and Hewitt cover 31 years. Cremins was one of the biggest names in coaching from '85 - '96. Other than the alma mater incident, which obviously had nothing to do with trying to get a better job, he wasn't looking to change. As far as leaving for the NBA or a college losing its mind and paying someone crazy money, that's...
