  1. Amazed how people just don’t want to work

I'll repeat what I said. Perhaps you missed it: Many people who do such studies do them to support political biases. So to reply to me by saying what you said above, did indeed make me laugh. I hope you are not that obtuse in your reading to miss such obvious nonsense.
  2. Amazed how people just don’t want to work

Having lived and worked in England for some years, I can suggest you should take such statistics with a HUGE grain of salt. I would say that the US is still better than the UK in this regard, based on my experience on the ground in both societies. Many people who do such studies do them to...
  3. Amazed how people just don’t want to work

Wife and I had a very interesting discussion with a German couple last time we visited Europe (a few years ago now). We met them in a small bar, enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine together. As the afternoon wore on, they brought up whether we thought some portion of any society's population...
  4. Amazed how people just don’t want to work

People who post on GT Swarm all day don't HAVE to work :-)
  5. SEC Adds Texas & OU, What Next?

I get that, but this is a sports message board, and (as I am sure you know) the money in sports does not mix with the academic money, so that $10MM per year translates into coaches salaries, etc etc, and makes it harder for us to compete effectively at the national level.
  6. SEC Adds Texas & OU, What Next?

Just so we all see the numbers: Total Revenue Big Ten: $768.9 million SEC: $728.9 million Pac-12: $533.8 million ACC: $496.7 million Big 12: $409.2 million Per School Distributions Big Ten: $54.3 million SEC: $45.5 million Big 12: $37 to $40.5 million Pac-12: $33.6 million ACC: $30.9 to...
  7. SEC Adds Texas & OU, What Next?

Pretty sure we are well behind both SEC and Big Ten, last time i looked, by at least $10MM per school per year. That's a lot of cookie dough. Plus they all have bigger stadiums and bigger fan bases. We are WELL behind financially to both those leagues. We are in the same category as Big XII and...
  8. SEC Adds Texas & OU, What Next?

A ton of fans/schools in the ACC dislike WVU, including mostly UVa and VPI&SU. I am not certain the whys and wherefores, but WVU certainly doesn't measure up academically to most of the rest of the ACC (other than Louisville<cough, cough>), plus...well, they're hillbillies. I have. heard it said...
  9. 2021 Atlanta Braves

Well, I pooh-poohed the deadline additions, but something now seems different about this Braves team. Reminds me of years prior when being behind early wasn't a death sentence. Another comeback win last night for 4 in a row. Getting interesting again.
  10. Expansion Talk 2021

Just a politician doing what politicians do best...posturing. Nothing to see there.
  11. SEC Adds Texas & OU, What Next?

ACC really doesn't have many good choices beyond Notre Dame. And I think that's a tough nut to crack (based on history and what ND alums I know tell me). Football revenue is driving this bus, and the impetus is to get better product to market...more "big time"games to offer to the streaming...
  12. Expansion Talk 2021

This. Exactly this. Or we bolt to the Big Ten. And if we fail to do this, we risk becoming like Tulane.
  13. Expansion Talk 2021

RonJohn is exactly right and this has always been the case and always be the case going forward. Number of first round draft picks, players on NFL rosters, comparative W-L records....none of the "facts" matter to ESPN, who wants to hype the SEC into the money making machine of GOAT of college...
  14. Expansion Talk 2021

I think we are all aware the DRad came to us from his stint at...LSU. I am sure he still has plenty of contacts within the SEC.
  15. Expansion Talk 2021

Not certain that the SEC won't just say "bye-bye" and have their own "National Championship" playoffs, whatever the other 4 P-5 conferences do... Given that the have ESPN's full support, I could see them trying it...
  16. 2021 Atlanta Braves

Color me unimpressed by the Braves moves. The pickups don't really seem all that much better than what we had on hand. Duvall and Pederson were hitting 0.230 with their respective teams. Soler is hitting below 0.200 at KC and strikes out a TON. Hard for me to see the improvement in our offense...
  17. Expansion Talk 2021

tbh, so far the vast majority of comments on message boards have been way wrong with regard to what gas happened so far. Many said Texas A&M and Arkansas would oppose Texas and OU....nope. Many said other SEC schools would oppose the move. Nope. Many said that Texas and OU might just be bluffing...
  18. Tokyo Olympics

I'm kinda surprised anyone is watching. I don't know one person who is watching the Olympics....
  19. Which conference should define Tech next 20 yrs?

Shouldn’t you be looking at win %. I suspect they played more games in the last 9 year period as well.
