Exactly right if the ACC wants to survive.
Just wish they had spent the last couple of decades fighting for their place in the national media. Passivity by ACC leadership got us here and they have only themselves to blame for this bad PR battle with FSU.
Well, actually, an argument could be made for Louisville but those who have already drunk the SEC kool aid would never understand the argument. Though, surprisingly, there’s an outside chance some Auburn fans might understand.
I watched that 9 minute drive and announcers talking about how nervous James Madison was wondering how many more times they would get their hands on the ball. Such an under appreciated football strategy.
The SEC began saber-rattling about the conference winner “better get in no matter who it is” weeks before the game was even played. My wish is that the ACC had responded immediately that, in the event of an undefeated ACC champion, the ACC “better get in.”
May not have made a difference but...
I thought Carson was a good coach and had a brilliant defensive mind. He invented the cover 2 defense and was the architect of the steel curtain defense for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But he had two things going against him. He followed Dodd and, from his former marine days, he thought trying to...
I think it’s clear FSU has already forfeited their bowl game. There’s no upside for most of the players who are opting out. But you are dead wrong, if FSU had an undefeated season in the SEC or the B1G there is no way they get left out of the playoffs.
And…what eventually happens is what always seems to happen. Justifiable outrage over an excellent undefeated team getting snubbed slowly fades and gets replaced by the SEC narrative which has been blaring from the public address systems for 40 years.
If I’m UCF I claim my national championship...
It’s a long story but the short version is that Carson was never loved by the Dodd devotees and players hated him. He made Tech go to the Peach Bowl in a year the players just wanted to go home to families for Christmas and forget a disappointing season. The players decided to make a mockery...
I believe that is partly a self fulfilling prophecy. But that’s an argument we can leave for another time.
My original point still has not had any serious rejoinders, that is, if the ACC is such an inferior conference then FSU absolutely should leave (and any other program that wants to get...
2004 has its own Wikipedia page due to all the complications, including 5 undefeated teams and no playoff system. The coaches poll helped determine which two undefeated teams would play, pitting number 1 against number 2.
