  1. Pete Hurt added to staff

Heard he is a distant relative to the GT great Richard Hurt.
  2. Obit calling our CPJ

GT > CPJ not the other way around.
  3. HOPE Scholarship (Can it be used to bring in more recruits??)

Back when I got Hope in 95-2000, it covered tuition to state schools, and $2500 to private colleges. At state schools, you had to maintain a 3.0, but at private you didn't. Hope has really been better for sports like baseball who have around 12 ships for 25 players. I played baseball at a...
  4. Travis Custis and Jonathan Dwyer

Dwyer's track coach was quoted on Prep Sports Plus as saying he ran a 4.37. That was when he was much lighter, before being on a college lifting program, and before he put on the bad weight as well.
  5. Travis Custis and Jonathan Dwyer

Dwyer was a track guy, and got down as low as 4.37 at one point. Custis has a great burst, but not sustained speed. What set Dwyer apart was that he had great form at top speed. Most rb's can't hold their form at top speed. Custis seemed to break down at 20 yds when I saw him, much like...
  6. Hal Mumme interview talks about CPJ

Disagree. Offenses that are used to throwing the ball are going to be more successful in those situations. Their line is going to be better at pass blocking, they are used to up tempo, their qb will have had all game to get in a rhythm, and they are in their comfort zone. We have been awful...
  7. Hal Mumme interview talks about CPJ

Extreme offenses have their place. What worries me about extreme run offenses like ours is that it's not good when you have under 3 minutes to play and need a score.
  8. Passing the ball

Agree Stylee, and thanks for the clarification! A few concepts can go a long way if you disguise them and dress them up. Not sure exactly how CPJ packages either. I do think that the difficulty with learning the run part of the game for the qb, is how fast he has to make a read and the...
  9. Passing the ball

Not necessarily. Offenses are designed to be QB friendly now days. Nick Marshall is not smart, but he looks like a genius running that system in his first year...with no Spring practice. Baylor has had 3 different qbs in 3 years and have continued to increase production each year. Taj Boyd...
  10. Passing the ball

Agree on Mesh. Cross if man settle if zone. It would complement our crack blocks on rocket toss well. Other things from Air Raid are Shallows. Looks like mesh, but you high low the LBers. One crosses 7 yds deep, the other on the heels of the DLine. 86 and 89 which have a 3 level stretch...
  11. Passing the ball

That's one of the main differences between the Run and Shoot and the Air Raid. The Air Raid is much better in the RedZone.
  12. Spread Option Offense Part 1

Pass blocking mainly. We have to let the OLine pass set which will keep the Defender in front of them longer, which in turn will give the QB more time to set and throw. I understand why CPJ wants to fire out (to disguise the pass longer), but it's time to adjust a little. Also, the passing...
  13. Spread Option Offense Part 1

Yes. We get the same amount of time that everyone else gets. It would require changing some philosophies rather just spending more time working on it.
  14. Spread Option Offense Part 1

Same here! Don't get me wrong, I like the flexbone, just not as the exclusive offense. I've always believed that you need to have the ability to run and throw equally. Some games we threw it all over the place using the Air Raid base passing game, and others, we ran it down their throats out...
  15. Spread Option Offense Part 1

    Fair enough.
  16. Spread Option Offense Part 1

That is what I'm talking about. Zoning front side or backside of a play is not the Inside/Outside Zone play. Zoning refers to a combo between the 2 OLinemen. Just like Railroad (Reach and Run), Pin and Pull, or even Fanning. Zoning is not the actual play. You can't run an actual inside...
  17. Spread Option Offense Part 1

Agree with Stylee here. Turn back protection is used on the rollout passes that we run.
  18. Spread Option Offense Part 1

You like the peaceful tenor, yet you jump in attacking me and continue to hit and run. Solid reasoning...
  19. Spread Option Offense Part 1

It's not a spread, and you must be hanging out on wing T forums. Everything looks like a spread to them.
  20. Spread Option Offense Part 1

Yes I did, and it was developed in the NFL. Zoning a down lineman has been around for a while, but the inside outside zone plays did not emerge until the late 90's. Please, please show me CPJ running the zone read at Hawaii 15 years before it was invented. I'll be waiting!
