Thacker has had a long enough period of OJT. If he lacks sufficient talented personnel, he could at least have taught and required the ones he has to play with better technique and aggression. Once/If he fixes the defense, we could be in most or all of our remaining games.
The “something to gain” by firing Thacker now is the messaging from Key that poor performance, whether players or coaches, will not be tolerated. It might “inspire” some on the defense to step up. It may also convince a dwindling fanbase to hang on and suffer through more losing for one more year…
Key did a reasonably good job when TFG was fired after 3 games. Is there a possibility that Thacker gets fired soon, so someone else can come in as DC and maybe make improvements? I would be happy with someone who comes in and just says, “Men, if you are not willing to hit hard and make tackles...
Away game. SEC opponent. Still a weak Tech defense with little to show in pass rush pressure. Really good Ole Miss QB who will likely deliver in the absence of a pass rush. Tech team still unsure how to win.
