I think Nichols is breaking down the defenses because he is a former DC who played in an option offense. I think we are referring to him as an offensive analyst because he is working with our offensive coaches to game plan since he will have scouted the defense. Cook will be doing the reverse so...
They watch a LOT of film. They can't coach guys or recruit off campus so they break down film all day. They usually scout the opponents instead of breaking down Tech's film. Cook, an offensive guy, will break down say Miami's film and figure out how their offense runs (how they like to line up...
Disagree. Lots of bad head coaches make good coordinators and analysts. His teams at Toledo when he was DC were always good. On a side note, those Toledo teams had a lot of young coaches who went on to big things (Matt Campbell, Scott Satterfield, Jason Candle among them).
Paul Johnson likes to get the ball first to start the game, which has its benefits. One major drawback is that if you let the other team score right before halftime you give the opponent back-to-back possessions. Having a defense that either knows how to play prevent correctly or that stays with...
I'm reminded of someone (maybe Spurrier?) saying something similar about running aggressive, blitz heavy defenses. They are either going to score quickly or you're going to get the ball back quickly.
I'm not "freaking out", I just said Thomas is really tiny for an OLB which he is. And you can't fairly compare sizes of a 4-3 like Foster's and a 3-4. A DE generally can be much smaller in a 4-3 and closer in size to a OLB in a 3-4. A 3-4 DE will usually be closer in size to a 3-tech in a 4-3...
Well, the two things are ILB and OLB are quite different positions especially in a 3-4 (or 50 or whatever we are calling it), the other is that 6'2" 190 and 6' 190 is a huge difference in size.
He is really going to have to hit the weight room and pray then, 6'2" 190 is TINY for a OLB. I know Coach Woody has said he values speed over size but he's going to be destroyed at that size. I could see corner or safety maybe, but OLB I'm not sure. Maybe coach misspoke.
I'm looking forward to how the DBs shake out more than the other positions. I believe Coach Woody runs mostly man coverage it looks like whereas Coach Roof ran cover-4 (a zone scheme). Guys weren't really recruited for the coverage scheme we want so young guys like Tre have a big opportunity to...
Not just that they get anyone in a pulse in, there's a lot of other stuff going on. Sammy Watkins gets pulled over for distribution and PEDs and serves a 2 game suspension. Tahj Boyd is connected with Will Lyles (Google them), the street agent selling recruits that got Chip Kelly a show cause at...
Duke has also only played a P5 team once before playing us since 2012.
BYE
Memphis (when they were awful)
BYE
Northwestern
BYE
Army
For comparison we have had in that time frame:
UNC
BYE
Miami
Notre Dame
BYE
Virginia Tech
We are 3-3 while getting a terrible draw against them schedule wise.
Dabo is 6-5 vs. gt and 5-5 vs. USC and 5-5 vs. FSU. His body of work isn't that impressive until Clemson started paying serious coin. Lots of Clemson fans wanted him gone after losing 5 straight to USC.
And Paul Johnson is doing his job. Ken can act like a beat reporter or he can act as an investigative journalist. Paul Johnson can limit assistant coach interviews, it's totally within his powers if he feels like Ken is trying to get his guys in trouble.
Dabo's won once in Atlanta, with a team that won the national title. He also gets worked by a lot of bad teams but manages to pull out wins purely on crazy depth.
The money exists, both through the school and through donors, but we don't invest it in football. Take a tour of our brand new golf course, our state of the art tennis facility, our $50million basketball arena, or look at the budget line for a new $10million broadcast studio or see how much we...
Maybe the term has evolved but a run-and-shoot the way I learned it isn't one read and then scramble. It usually involves 4 WR and lots of pre-snap motion to find out the coverage and the WR pick the route based on what they see as opposed to a pre-determined play call in the huddle. It's a very...
TaQuan's biggest flaw is his happy feet, he takes off running too early/rolls out if the pocket too early. Luckily this is something that can be fixed just with experience and playing. It is one of the major downsides to cross training QBs at other positions, he has a RB mentality that he needs...
There's also a psychological effect on the qb when you are running a lot of blitzes and pressuring them. If they can get in a rhythm and have time then they can just play pitch and catch with their receivers all day. Blitz them and rattle them and you can see it snowball. Granted the really good...
